On 11 March, a gathering was held at the Tyszkiewicz-Potocki Palace summarizing the existing assistance provided by the University of Warsaw Ukraine and Ukrainians in Warsaw. Its organizer was the Warsaw University Cultural investigation Centre.
Opened by the Rector of the University of Warsaw Prof. Alojze Z. The fresh gathering was an chance to exchange experiences in support of Ukraine (material aid, language courses, applications, films, workshops, etc.) which have so far been provided by selected from university units.
The University of Warsaw prepared for Ukrainians about 2100 places in college and about 1100 places in dormitories free of charge. He besides provided about 100 places for Ukrainian families, intellectual and legal assistance centres, about 100 jobs for academic teachers from Ukraine. Polish courses and many online courses were prepared and conducted. Many sanitary aid packages were purchased and sent to Ukraine at the beginning of the aggression," said Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak.
Prof. Hubert Kowalski, manager of the Museum of the University of Warsaw, Agata Wroczyńska from the University of Open University of Warsaw, as well as Prof. Elżbieta Wichrowska, Director, talked about the actions taken. Warsaw Culture investigation Centerwho was the organizer of the meeting.
The Warsaw University of Warsaw Cultural investigation Centre, like many another units of the University of Warsaw, became active in educational assistance for refugees from Ukraine who appeared in Poland after the outbreak of the war on February 24, 2022. For more than half a year, on behalf of Warsaw, the Centre has been implementing the task "Science of Polish language for foreigners in the position of European civilization and past and modernity of Warsaw", with the financial support of the United Nations Fund for Children UNICEF. The thought of the task binds respective elements: learning Polish with cultural-civilization cognition concerning Warsaw's past and culture in the Polish and European context.
In addition to the classical tutors, the Centre offers linguistic-thematic conversations; linguistic walks in Warsaw (led by employees of the Warsaw University Museum), museum and dance workshops are besides organized. An application was besides created – an educational game ("Play Polish in Warsaw") for language education while exploring the most interesting and most crucial places in Warsaw, past and symbolism.
There were besides series of movie materials concerning problems of Polish phonetics – “Polish Speech in explanation and practice”. The Centre besides develops textbooks for learning Polish. He is co-operating with academics from Ukrainian centres, including Ivano-Frankivska or Kharkivka.
During the meeting, 1 could besides hear about Ukrainian activities in Warsaw, including in the context of wellness protection, culinary, journalism or culture. The exhibition of paintings of Ukrainian painters – Dzvinka Kostyshyn and Olhi Bartysh, whose works are in collections of private collectors in Europe and the USA, was besides presented. The exhibited paintings could be purchased. Half of the proceeds from the sale will be transferred to the fighting Ukraine.
Members of the Warsaw University Rector's Team, representatives of Warsaw, as well as members of the university community took part in the meeting.
