In the municipality of Strzelce Opole there was a brutal knife attack. The perpetrator, who is under the influence of alcohol, must leave Poland and not return for 10 years. What precisely happened?

A fewer days ago, a dangerous incidental occurred in 1 of the workplaces in Strzelce Opolskie. A 58-year-old Ukrainian citizen, while passing on the shift, approached his 35-year-old countryman and began threatening to deprive him of his life. Then he pulled out the knife and hit his associate's face with it.

An ambulance was called to the scene. Fortunately, the injuries proved harmless – the victim was treated by a doctor and could return home. The perpetrator, on the another hand, fled the scene on a bicycle.

Rapid police consequence and consequences for the attacker

Police from Opolskie Rifles rapidly determined the whereabouts of the attacker and detained him. It turned out that the man was under the influence of alcohol – a promil was detected in his body. According to preliminary findings, the attack was the consequence of a long-term conflict between the 2 men.

A 58-year-old boy heard allegations:

  • directing criminal threats,
  • causing insignificant harm to health.

He's even threatened with these crimes. 3 years in prison. However, this is not the end of the consequences – the perpetrator was handed over to the Border Guard, who issued the decision to commit him to return to Ukraine. Additionally, it was included ban on entry into the Schengen area for 10 years.

Crimes with a knife – what penalties do they endanger in Poland?

In Poland, the attack with a dangerous tool specified as a knife is taken very seriously. Depending on the effects, perpetrators may threaten:

  • up to 3 years imprisonment for causing insignificant harm to wellness (Article 157(2) of the Criminal Code),
  • up to 5 years for criminal threats (Article 190(1) K.k.),
  • up to 10 years in the event of serious injury or attempted murder.

In the case of foreigners, an additional consequence may be deportation and ban of entry into the EU.
