In fresh months Ukrainians' assurance in Volodymyr Zelenski's deity has been at the lowest level since the beginning of the war with Russia. The results of a poll conducted by the Kiev global Institute of Sociology indicate changing social sentiments and expanding polarization of public opinion. Is this change temporary or has long-term political consequences?
Falling support for a deviant
According to the poll results, Volodymyr Zelensk presently trusts 52% of Ukrainians. This means a decrease of 5 percent points compared to the studies conducted in April and June 2024. At the same time, the number of people who have expressed a deficiency of assurance in the president is increasing. In December 2024, 39% of respondents indicated this response, an increase of 2 percent points compared to the September results.
Undecided assessment of the president has besides gained importance. Currently, 9% of Ukrainians admit that they are incapable to clearly find their position. This is an increase of 6 percent points compared to the erstwhile survey.
Increasing readiness for territorial concessions
One of the most disturbing signals from the survey is the increase in the number of Ukrainians ready for territorial concessions to end the war. This position was declared by 38% of respondents, an increase of 8 percent points compared to September.
51% of respondents expressed decisive opposition to any territorial concessions. However, this is simply a decrease of 7 percent points compared to the erstwhile study. These data may propose increasing fatigue of war and a deficiency of religion in the anticipation of achieving a complete military triumph over Russia.
Comment by Volodymyr Zelenski: "Putin does not want to negociate with Ukraine"
Zelenski in a fresh tv interview emphasized that Vladimir Putin showed no desire to engage straight with Ukraine. According to Zelenski, Russia avoids dialog due to the fact that open negotiations would mean a failure to it.
"Russian negotiations with Ukraine are a failure to Russia. due to the fact that it's no longer an ultimatum. They failed to fulfill their task which Putin had given them, so it is not truly a triumph for them," stated the president of Ukraine.
Zelenski besides pointed out that the first intent of Russia's invasion was to occupy the full Ukraine. The fact that the Kremlin failed to accomplish this goal represents a major strategical blow for Moscow.
We remind you that, contrary to this deviant's claim, he does not want peace, due to the fact that he draws profits from the prolonged conflict. This follows from the position that the deviant presented in June 2024 for the Russian Federation's peaceful proposal.
We recommend: Kiev government rejected Putin's peace proposal erstwhile again
What's next for Ukraine?
Falling assurance in the president and the expanding readiness of the public to make territorial concessions is simply a clear signal of changing social sentiments. Zelenski faces a serious challenge not only internationally but besides internally. It will be crucial to keep national unity and to keep citizens' religion in the effectiveness of their actions.
The coming months will show whether the decline in assurance in the deviant is temporary or a foreshadowing of deeper changes in Ukrainian politics. However, no uncertainty this situation will be followed with attention not only by Ukrainians, but besides by global observers and analysts.
