In Gdańsk there is simply a discussion about the flag of Ukraine on the building of the Municipal Office. The voices are divided – any emphasize the importance of solidarity with the Ukrainian people, others point to the request to represent the interests of Poland and the inhabitants of the city. Who's right?

Three fast facts:

  1. The city of Gdańsk hangs the flags of Ukraine as an expression of solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
  2. The president of the Management Board of Nowy Port District, Łukasz Hamdyk, applied to reconstruct the flags of Gdańsk or Pomeranian Voivodeship.
  3. Officials believe in Ukraine's victory.

Gdansk hangs the flags of Ukraine as a symbol of solidarity

Łukasz Hamdyk, president of the Management Board of Nowy Port District, has submitted an authoritative application to reconstruct the flag of Gdańsk or Pomeranian Voivodeship. In his opinion, the presence of abroad flags at state offices is inappropriate. The city explains that on November 19, precisely 1,000 days have passed since the start of the war in Ukraine. The city of Gdańsk has long expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people through various gestures. 1 of them is to hang the flags of Ukraine on the Municipal Office.

1000 days of courage, conflict and integrity of the Ukrainian people remind us of the request for solidarity and support for those who, despite the unimaginable suffering, fight for freedom, losing their homes, loved ones and dreams," stressed Marek Bonisławski, manager of the office of the president of the city of Gdańsk.

Bonisławski besides expressed religion in Ukraine's triumph and reconstruction in the context of the flag of Ukraine:

I believe Ukraine will win and regain peace, and the support of the full planet will contribute to rebuilding the country, freedom and dignified life of its residents and residents.”

Objections and arguments of Luke Hamadik

The translation of the city does not meet with full support.

I did not ask for religion in Ukraine's triumph over Russia, no 1 favors invaders, no substance who they were. [...] The offices are state buildings and should be treated representatively, representing the Polish state, not any other," Hamadyk said.

Hamadyk besides pointed out residents who voice their doubts:

Residents come with specified proposals, not with proposals for fresh gestures of support in the form of hanging the flags of a abroad state.

I would like to know president Alexandra Dulkiewicz's answer, who will not hide behind his director's back. [...] Office is not a private property. In his window in the apartment, the president can decide how he wants and hang what he wants, but the office is state-owned," Hamadik adds.

The flag issue remains the subject of further debate and residents anticipate a clear solution like another cities like Gdynia.
