Ukrainian chamas say they threatened commune mayors where the carrier's protests take place with lawsuits

According to Volodymyr Balin, Vice-Chief of Associations of global Transporters from Ukraine, the municipal authorities where the strikes of the carriers took place were forced by judicial threats. Volodymyr Balin, the vice-chair of the association of global carriers from Ukraine, interviewed the portal Strana, in which he explained that the problem of border blockades was solved by the actions of lawyers from his association. These lawyers prepared letters addressed to the mayors of respective municipalities in which Ukrainians demanded the cancellation of earlier issued permits to conduct strikes.

"Our lawyers turned to the municipalities of Medyka, Dorohusk, Radumno, Lubycza Królski, who issued permits for protests until January 2024. If they had not responded to the proposal to retreat authorisations, the next step would have been to take legal action. However, we were able to call Polish officials and retreat permissions to strike. Now each carrier will decide whether to apply for compensation. A failure audit has been carried out, papers are being prepared’ – he said.

"This is not so much about our lawyers and threats of lawsuits, but about the position of the European Commission, which straight threatened the Polish authorities with sanctions for allowing the border to be blocked. But this is evidently a step in favour of Ukraine. Although it is not yet clear how much traffic will take place and whether it will be artificially slowed down by the Polish Border Guard, and specified cases have already been observed, so negotiations at the level of transport ministries should follow the unlocking of the border and find the best ways to normalise traffic. Ukraine may gotta compromise. This is not, of course, about the return of the authorisation system" – said Stranie the origin in the Ukrainian government.

On Monday, the mayor of the municipality of Dorohusk, Wojciech Sawa, decided to end the protest of carriers at the border with Ukraine. The carriers themselves were the first to be informed of this solution, and Rafał Mekler, 1 of the organisers of the protest and the Confederate activist, shared this information on the X platform. Surprisingly, the Ukrainians had already realized that the protest would be over: “In Dorohusk, we got a call that around 1:00 p.m. the mayor would solve the protest. The most interesting thing is that already yesterday Ukrainians knew that next day would be after the protest," wrote Mekler. The assembly was later confirmed during the briefing of local authorities.

However, the border blockade has not been abolished. The reason for its maintenance is the semitrailer, which stood there for a period and blocked the road across – reported Rafał Mekler in the next entry.

The mayor of Dorohusk commune, Wojciech Sawa, quoted earlier by the Interia portal, explained his decision, stressing that he could no longer tolerate the failure of jobs by the inhabitants of the municipality. Sawa accused the protestors of failing to comply with the erstwhile arrangements for the passage of ADR.

The municipality justified the decision to end the protest, indicating "a threat to large-scale property" and "a block of traffic". Despite the resolution of the protest, strikers announce a continuation of action, suggesting that the protest may take a "other form". They point out that the decision to end the protest is seen as a "political" decision.

“No random choice of date: the media is to be occupied with something else, and the association is to be with the Tusk government, despite decisions being made by decision-makers from the PiS government” – Krzysztof Bosak (Confederation, National Movement) referred to the case.

Since 6 November there are protests of Polish carriers at the border. Entrepreneurs from Poland express their dissatisfaction with unequal access to the Ukrainian marketplace compared to the rights granted to carriers from the east region operating in Poland. The issue concerns the elimination of the request to get transport permits for Ukrainian entities, which in contrast applies to Polish companies in Ukraine. In addition, it is noted that Ukrainian companies are not required to comply full with all the regulations imposed by EU standards. On Monday, drivers from Slovakia and Hungary besides joined the protest.
