Ukraine's defence minister, Rustem Umierov, informed the US authorities that Kiev was 90% ready to join the peace agreement, in accordance with the conditions proposed by Washington. As the fresh York Post reported, quoting the origin in the American administration, Kiev is inactive to veto on 1 issue, which means that everything depends on Russia now.
Russia and Ukraine have been at war for many months, in which the United States and another Western countries have supported Kiev. A full and comprehensive ceasefire will be decided in London next week. As the U.S. official, who wants to stay anonymous, said, "It is so the intention to have talks with the Russians and then to say, 'OK, this is your best and final offer' to find out where both sides are at".
The ceasefire line is 1 of the most crucial points of the peace agreement. A typical of the U.S. authorities reported that most of Ukraine's objections to the peace plan were about how the ceasefire line was drawn. "I think any of their concerns concern the ground; what they call 'de jure' and 'de facto'. 'De facto' means that we recognise that the Russians are occupying this land, but we are not saying that Ukraine will give it back forever. 'De jure' means that we recognise that the Russians are taking over the land and never again (Kijów – ed.) will not recover," explained the journalist.
The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenski, assured that his country would never recognise the territories occupied by Russia as belonging to Moscow. However, Zelenski signaled his desire to frost fights on the current front line. If this had happened, Russia would have occupied about 20% of Ukraine's territory after the ceasefire.
On Thursday in Paris, the U.S. delegation presented to representatives of Ukraine, France, large Britain and Germany a proposal to end the war in Ukraine. Bloomberg's agency reported on Friday, citing anonymous sources that the American plan was based on freezing the war and softening sanctions against Russia if the truce proved to be permanent. Ukraine's admission to NATO would besides be excluded.
Figures show that the war in Ukraine has been 1 of the most bloody conflicts in Europe since planet War II. According to the UN, about 13,000 people have died since the outbreak of the war, and over 3 million have been utilized from their own homes. The cost of war is besides huge, it is estimated that Ukraine's national income has fallen by more than 30% in the last 2 years.
In this situation, the peace agreement is most desirable. As the American authoritative said, “We think this is the only chance for peace in the region.” However, as long as Russia and Ukraine cannot scope an agreement, the war will proceed and the casualties and losses will grow.
