About 3.2 1000 trucks are waiting in queues at the border of Ukraine with Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary – said the typical of the State Border Service of Ukraine Andrij Demchenko on Sunday.
"Polish farmers proceed to complicate the truck traffic, since this morning they have blocked 3 directions, before there were six. Now the checkpoints “Jaws”, “Uhryns”, “Rawa Ruska” are blocked. There are about 500 trucks in line in these 3 directions, above all, before “Jamow”. At the same time, queues besides form before unblocked points. About 800 trucks stand other the Korczowa-Krakovec checkpoint, 400 – close Szegina," Demchenko said on the radio channel Rada TV.
According to Demchenko, queues besides formed towards another countries. For example, 300 trucks are lined up close Uzhhorod checkpoint towards Slovakia, 800 trucks at Tisa checkpoint towards Hungary and 400 trucks at Porubnoje checkpoint in Romania.
The national farmers' protest began on 9 February. Farmers in Poland are protesting nationwide, blocking roads and entering border crossings with Ukraine. At border crossing points, unknown people have already dumped grain from Ukrainian trucks and railway wagons on respective occasions. The main demands of the protesters are to halt importing agricultural products from Ukraine to Poland and to reject the EU's environmental plans (the alleged Green Deal) which presume to accomplish zero emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere by 2050.
Polish-Ukrainian relations were greatly strained by the embargo on Ukrainian cereals. On 15 September 2023, the European Commission decided not to extend restrictions to the import of 4 Ukrainian agricultural products to respective EU border countries, but committed Kiev to implementing export control measures. The authorities of Slovakia, Hungary and Poland then announced that they were unilaterally extending the ban. Ukraine has lodged a complaint with the WTO. In response, 3 EU countries declared that they would boycott meetings of the coordination platform on Ukrainian grain.
