Ukraine and Poland have not reached an agreement on unlocking the border

Negotiations between Kiev and Warsaw on the unblocking of the Ukrainian-Polish border for Ukrainian carriers ended unsuccessfully – reported the typical of the State Border Service of Ukraine Andrij Demchenko.

Previously, the Ukrainian Ministry for the improvement of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure reported that a gathering of representatives of Polish authorities and carriers on unlocking border crossings was scheduled for Monday, 13 November.

"The negotiations have not led to anything so far, so Polish carriers are inactive blocking 3 major directions on the border with Poland," Demchenko said on the Ukrainian news show. According to the official, 3 checkpoints are blocked: ‘Jahodin’, ‘Krakiwiec’ and ‘Rawa Ruska’. In total, about 2.3 1000 trucks are blocked on them," Demchenko noted.

Previously, RMF FM radio reported that Polish carriers had begun to block road checkpoints at the border with Ukraine. They request the restoration of the previously cancelled licensing strategy for Ukrainian commercial carriers with exceptions to humanitarian aid and transportation for Ukrainian troops, suspension of licenses for companies established in Ukraine after February 2022, their control, separation of queues of empty and loaded vehicles. The State Border Service of Ukraine noted that the truck traffic was hampered at 3 border crossing points with Poland due to the strike of Polish carriers. In particular, it is the control points of Korczów-Krakowec, Hrebenne-Rawa Ruska, Dorohusk-Ja hours.

This situation resulted from the protest action of Polish carriers who blocked the border crossings. They blocked the access roads to the checkpoints by their vehicles and only allowed passenger cars, buses, humanitarian and military charges. The another trucks would pass erstwhile an hour. On 15 September, the European Commission decided not to extend the restrictions to imports of 4 types of Ukrainian agricultural products to respective EU border countries, but obliged Kiev to introduce export control measures. The authorities of Slovakia, Hungary and Poland then announced that they were unilaterally extending the ban. Ukraine has lodged a complaint with the WTO. In response, 3 EU countries declared that they would boycott meetings of the coordination platform on Ukrainian grain.
