On Friday, the National Prosecutor's Office presented the results of the investigation squad investigating possible irregularities during this year's presidential election. The mistakes were found in 84 committees and were serious in any cases. However, according to investigators, they did not influence who would become president. “We are talking about a difference of 1.5 1000 votes,” said PK spokesperson Przemysław Nowak.

A prosecutor's squad appointed by the decision of the national prosecutor Dariusz Korneluk on 30 June analysed documentation from 250 regional electoral commissions. The impetus for action was 2 independent experts who indicated circumstantial commissions in which "there is simply a very advanced or advanced probability of error".

The examination of the ballots shows that in the second circular of the presidential election, Karol Nawrocki received 48,473 votes, and his rival Rafał Trzaskowski – 43,709. Meanwhile, authoritative protocols indicated 50 011 and 42 168 votes respectively. This means that Nawrocki had 1538 votes besides many and Trzaskowski had 1541 besides few.

– So we're talking about a difference of 1,500 votes. Mathematics indicates that this difference did not affect the result of the election," noted the spokesperson for the National Prosecutor's Office Przemysław Nowak.

Election irregularities in 84 committees

Of the 250 committees examined, there was no discrepancy between cards and protocols in 166 cases. Problems have arisen in the remaining 84 committees – and of a different nature: from insignificant shortcomings to serious errors.

16 committees stated the reverse attribution of votes to both candidates: the votes cast in Trzaskowski were counted by Nawrock or vice versa. In a full of 42 committees, at least part of the votes of Trzaskovsky were misallocated to his rival, and in 34 committees – vice versa.

In the remaining 8 cases, another types of irregularities were found, specified as misrecognition of votes valid for nullity or vice versa.

As Proc. Nowak said, the squad is inactive working on the final report. There are presently 17 separate investigations involving circumstantial committees. 1 of the objectives of the prosecution's actions is to find whether we are dealing with systemic errors that require legislative changes or human negligence.

– We want to realize the mechanisms of irregularities. The conclusions of our analyses can aid to seal the strategy and guarantee greater reliability of the electoral process," emphasised the PK spokesperson.

At the same time, he added that the prosecution's actions were not intended to find the result of the elections, but simply to check whether there were crimes during the number of votes.

Presidential elections 2025 considered important

The first circular of the presidential election was held on 18 May, the second on 1 June. The winner was Karol Nawrocki, a candidate supported by the Law and Justice. shortly thereafter, more than 54,000 electoral protests were received at the ultimate Court. 21 of them were considered legitimate, but – as stressed by the home of Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs – they did not affect the result of the elections.

The ultimate Court officially confirmed the validity of Nawrock's election as president in early July. The fresh president's oath was scheduled for August 6 before the National Assembly.
