Ziobro and Romanowski in a legal trap
After asylum in Hungary Zbigniew Ziobro (55 l.) and Marcin Romanowski (50 l.) received alleged Geneva passports which let them to cross borders. However, this paper does not mean full freedom of travel or safety outside the country which granted protection. True writes that the legal situation of specified persons is much more complicated. – The Geneva passport is simply a paper issued to refugees who cannot usage their country's passport – explains Dr Marcinko from the Jagiellonian University in an interview with the journal. However, it stresses that its function is limited due to the fact that "it does not give any peculiar immunity – it is not a diplomatic passport". It is crucial that specified a paper does not prevent detention in the event of global prosecution. – If a wanted individual enters the country and a European arrest warrant or extradition request has been issued to him, he or she may be detained – points out the expert. Although theoretically there are countries to which travel can affect little risk, there is no warrant of safety. Even the absence of an extradition agreement does not preclude cooperation between States on circumstantial matters. The Geneva passport thus gives the chance to travel, but does not destruct legal threats. In practice, any journey outside the country of asylum could have consequences.
