Regional changes

Regional centres of Polish tv and regional companies of Polish Radio are presently undergoing staff changes related to the exchange of directors and presidents. In any places, fresh authorities have already been announced, specified as in TVP Białystok, TVP Rzeszów, TVP Katowice and TVP Gdańsk. However, in Krakow and Poznań the names of fresh leaders are inactive unofficial, although they are already known unofficially.

It is worth noting that all regional radio companies have been put into liquidation. Nevertheless, decommissioning does not mean a real closure of the station, and workers have been assured that their salaries and holidays are not at risk. However, the liquidation process requires the replacement of regional public authorities by liquidators, which may besides mean changes in their functions. No name of the liquidator was yet known on Tuesday.

In the case of TVP Białystok it is known that Grzegorz Sawicki became the fresh director, replacing Agnieszka Giełażyn-Sasimowicz. In TVP Kraków, most likely the fresh manager will be Alicia Popiel, replacing Rafał Mark. Jarosław Bajev is to take the position of head of the Poznań TVP centre, and in TVP Rzeszów Katarzyna Wrzesińska replaced Józef Matusz as manager of the branch. On TVP Łódź Magdalena Michalak-Szwarc serves as manager and editor-in-chief. Tomasz Fajfer, the longtime production manager of “News” and another programs in the Silesian centre, took the position of Mr. Its main nonsubjective is to rapidly reconstruct the emissions of its own stations. On last Tuesday, the hotel had already aired, among others, the economical magazine “Relations” and at 6:30 p.m., “News”. In Gdańsk Marek Wałuszko, an experienced writer and erstwhile manager of Gdańsk TVP in 2016, took up the position of chief. He declared that the Regional "Panorama" would be a fresh programme, not favouring politicians any option.

The situation in regional radio stations can be described as tense. In the fresh Year, CEOs of 14 of the 17 PR stations signed a joint message on putting radio companies in liquidation. The paper highlights, among others, the unconstitutionality of the decision of the Minister of Culture Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz.

They didn't all give up.

The text of the message states that the alleged "elimination" of public media seems to aim only at fast personnel changes in the Management Boards of Companies. In accordance with applicable regulations, personnel decisions, including the appointment and cancellation of the Management Boards and Supervisory Boards of Public Broadcasting Companies, are the competence of the National Media Council.

The authors of the message besides stressed that regional radio public media should not be pawns in a political dispute that could lead to their weakening or after the actual liquidation. The mission of public media is not only to supply information and valuable content, but besides to identify local content worth promoting, which is frequently not interesting for commercial mainstream media. The failure of local public media to carry out this mission could mean the absence of this activity.

However, the presidents of the 3 regional stations, namely Radio Katowice, Radio Opole and Radio Wrocław, did not sign the document.

Ryszard Montusewicz, Mariusz Deckert or Wojciech Pokora – these are the heads of TVP Lublin, Radio Lublin and Kurier Lubelski – who owe their positions to a good change. Now they gotta face another change that can deprive them of their positions.
