We will invest PLN 10 billion in the safety of the east border, including the fortification system," said Donald Tusk on Saturday. The head of government presented the assumptions of the defence and deterrence plan “Tarcza East”.

In Krakow, during celebrations related to the 80th anniversary of the conflict of Monte Cassino, the Prime Minister presented a fresh defence and deterrence strategy called the code name "Tarcza East".

“We have decided to invest in our security, and above all in the safe east borders of PLN 10 billion. We are launching a large task to build a safe border, including a fortification system, as well as specified terrain, environmental decisions that will make this border impossible for a possible enemy," he said.

He stated that the aim was to make a shield that would defend us from possible threats from the east, but, above all, to act as a deterrent to the possible enemy. The Prime Minister declared that work on this had already begun.

The Prime Minister reported that it was planned to build fortifications and fortifications over a 400 km long border with Belarus and Russia.

“We do this to scare the enemy away. So that all those who want Poland badly, that all those who in their plans have an attack and aggression on our allies and our country, to hear here from the Kraków market: a war from Poland! Poland is strong, Poland will be safe thanks to its own actions and its own alliances," said the head of the government.

Tusk stated that Poland is now more safe and powerful than in any another period of modern history.

“This is simply a sacred thing, the most crucial thing, that present in the Kraków marketplace together with Polish soldiers and their commanders we can say loudly, honestly, that Poland is safer and stronger than always before in modern history”, he said.

In January this year, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania agreed on plans to build a Baltic defensive line to strengthen their borders with Belarus and Russia. This concept is based on commitments resulting from decisions taken at the NATO Summit in Madrid, where the request for allies to defend each centimeter of territory and the request to make fresh regional defence strategies has been highlighted. The plan will make a network of bunkers, support points and supply lines.

According to the message of defence minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Poland is besides considering akin actions to those undertaken by the Baltic States, including the construction of bunkers and anti-tank ditches along the border with Russia and Belarus.
