– It is shameful and scandalous for politicians, including the future president, to insult and distance themselves from state services specified as the Border Guard, and to presume the function of patron over the right-wing activists of Mr Bąkiewicz, who disorganize the work of the Border Guard, including attacks on the Border defender officer. These are unacceptable things," said Donald Tusk during the Tuesday (1 July) government meeting.
Tusk criticized the attitude of politicians and future president
The Prime Minister pointed out that "he expects all politicians to always defend, support and assist Border Guards, the military, the police – erstwhile it comes to matters as crucial as border security".
In his opinion, people who "use political militants or activists interfere with the Polish state to defend the safety of citizens, the border and our territory". Tusk stressed that "such attitudes are irresponsible and can lead to serious threats to national security".
As we wrote on Temat.pl, in the last days along the border with Germany, alleged civic patrols began operating. Their members declare that they aim to prevent illegal migration from Germany to Poland.
Tension at the border with Germany. Checks return
According to the patrol members' coverage, their activities are "monitoring and preventive": they observe border roads, forests and routes, which they believe migrants are expected to decision to cross the border beyond authoritative crossings.
Some of them paper their "actions" and print recordings on social media. Members of these groups are frequently associated with the right or bargain the right. Tusk has already spoken on this matter.
You know what they're doing, it's embarrassing for all of us. That is why I will anticipate the Border defender and the police to know precisely how this problem can be addressed. This country is liable for the safety of the border, not for the groups called by Bąkiewicz," he said.
On Tuesday (1 July) after consultation with the Border Guard, the Polish Army and police, it was decided to temporarily reconstruct control at the Polish border with Germany and Poland with Lithuania. The fresh regulations will enter into force from Monday 7 July.
