Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on September 1 on Westerplatte that the coming autumn and winter could find the independency of Ukraine and the safety of Poland and the free world. He called not to repeat the mistakes before planet War II. For Poles real defence capabilities of the state are at stake, not the anniversary rhetoric itself.
Warning during anniversary celebrations
Donald Tusk took the level at Westerplatte during the celebration of the anniversary of the outbreak of planet War II. The Prime Minister assessed that the coming months, especially autumn and winter, could be essential for Ukraine's independence, the safety of Poland and the full free world. As OKO.press reports, the head of government besides warned against repeating mistakes that preceded the 1939 disaster.
Westerplatte is very serious. It was the fire of the Polish Military Transit Component by the German battleship "Schleswig-Holstein" that became 1 of the first acts of war begun on 1 September 1939. The Prime Minister's anniversary speech was so about the modern threat, but was given in a place that resembles the price of political shortsightedness and loneliness of the state.
History requires concrete
The words about not repeating past mistakes are right. However, the words alone will not defend Poland. The state needs a strong army, its own weapons production capabilities, resilient borders and diplomacy that can build alliances without giving national subjectivity. Each of these elements should be accounted for by citizens in terms of action, cost and result.
In the same place President Karol Nawrocki requested German reparations and reinforcement of the Polish army. Both themes combine state work for the continuity of memory and the safety of future generations. Poland cannot choose between historical memory and effective defence. 1 should strengthen the other.
Ukraine and Polish national interest
Russian aggression against Ukraine remains a direct challenge to the safety of our part of Europe. However, this does not mean agreeing to a policy conducted without a Polish account of costs and benefits. Assistance for the fighting Ukraine must go hand in hand with the improvement of its own potential, the protection of Polish citizens, and the hard placing of historical and economical matters. That is the point of state realism.
Earlier Tusk's speech at Campus showed how eager the Prime Minister is to decision the dispute over safety to organization ground. On Westerplatte the bar is higher. This place obliges to the language of the state community and to decisions that will last 1 term.
Poles have the right to request a resilient state
The coming autumn and winter can indeed bring further trials for Ukraine and the full region. From the position of Poles, the most crucial question is practically: does the government usage time to increase stocks, make defence manufacture and prepare critical infrastructure? The citizen has the right to know the answer due to the fact that he is the 1 who is liable for the costs of safety policy and it is his household who will feel the consequences of any negligence.
Westerplatte is not a decoration for speeches. It is simply a commitment that Poland should be able to defend its own territory, to measure threats and to usage alliances wisely. If the Prime Minister's informing is to bear a burden, it must be postponed to the measurable decisions of the state.
