In Turkey, located in 1 of the most politically unstable regions of the world, pragmatism has always ruled. Although it is now geographically and militarily located in the western bloc, it is, in a wider economical dimension, doomed to cooperation with Russia. This in turn makes it essential to look for a balance in the process of demarcation of the abroad policy. For Turkey to proceed and even deepen relations with Russia, while maintaining NATO membership, is simply a hard but essential condition. Since the beginning of the war Turkey has been able to support both the Ukrainian military effort and the war-stricken Russian economy.
