The line technology course, which is part of the base training at the Commandos Military Unit, is simply a demanding exam to prepare operators for service in combat teams. Soldiers exercise, among others, landing and evacuation from the chopper deck in mountain terrain. Their skills proved invaluable, for example, during rescue actions in 2024, erstwhile the south of Poland ravaged the flood.

Rope method course It takes 2 weeks, starts with a class on the ground. First, a fewer hours of theoretical part. Reminder of safety rules, parameters of mountaineering equipment, ropes and nodes. Then the tower. “We have 1 of the best altitude facilities in Poland, which allows to simulate the landing from the chopper in controlled conditions,” explains “Mazzi”, JWK instructor. These exercises last about a week. all day is more and more pounds. – First students exercise without load, then there is combat equipment, vest, gun, helmet, NVG backpacks, CBRN equipment. We teach them how to hook up, how to operate with mountaineering equipment, how to behave in an emergency, e.g. erstwhile an aircraft is caught – he adds.

Finally, there comes a minute of entry into the helicopter. – Noise, air gust, vibration, variable height. There is besides the request to execute the task under time pressure. Experts teach how to cope with stress and control emotions during the course. – Even if individual has passed the selection and has no problem with operation at advanced altitude, then erstwhile landing from the helicopter, they must leave their comfort zone. The hardest part is the first gathering with a helicopter. We evacuated residents, besides injured animals – the teacher recalls.

For 2 weeks, they coordinated human transport. They provided medicines, equipment, food and materials utilized to strengthen floodbanks. This experience gained in the crisis has become the starting point for the introduction of a pilot strategy in its unit. “We developed techniques for the big-bag drop – first we landed them in hard-to-access places, and then we directed the drop to the subway to seal the shafts. In time, we performed peculiar tables of standards and duties of line equipment. Before that, we mostly utilized sports equipment. Now we have equipment of military status, intended for operational activities – adds “Mazzi”.

The line technology course in the Jeleniogórska Basin area was already conducted in the fresh strategy and utilizing fresh tallness equipment. It is being further improved by the operators of the Commandos Military Unit from Lublin.
