Donald Trump identified his vice president J.D. Vance as the favourite to take over the presidency after his word of office ended. The president commented on this at the establishment of a squad for organizing the Los Angeles Olympics. Trump besides admitted that "probably" he would not apply for a 3rd term.

"Well, to be honest, I think it's most likely. I think Marco (Rubio) is besides individual who could someway join forces with J.D." - Trump said. "It is evidently besides early to talk about it, but (Vance) is definitely doing a large occupation and at this point he would most likely be the favorite" - he added.
An interview with CNBC raised questions
The question of succession was provoked by Trump's Tuesday interview for CNBC, in which the president stated that he would "probably" not apply for a 3rd term. Although the American constitution forbids this, Trump had not previously ruled it out by claiming that there were ways to circumvent the 2 word limit.
The president had earlier said that the people around him encouraged him to apply for a 3rd term. In a fresh interview with Fox radio, Marco Rubio - who combines 4 roles in the administration, including the head of diplomacy and national safety advisor - indicated Vance as Trump's possible successor.
Rubio was Trump's rival
Rubio was erstwhile Trump's rival in the fight for the party's presidential nomination, and before the 2024 election he was considered a possible vice presidential candidate. Trump, in earlier statements with a reserve, spoke of Vance's anticipation of taking over the legacy after him.
