Former PresidentU.S. ent Donald Trump said privately that he could end the conflict in Ukraine, putting force on Kiev to make this oddRussia Crimea and Donbas, writes the American Washington Post, citing sources.

"Former U.S. president Donald Trump said privately that he could end Russia's war in Ukraine, putting force on Ukraine to surrender part of the territory.... Trump's proposal is to force Ukraine to surrender to Crimea and its bordering Donbas to Russia," the publication says, citing sources.

Trump repeatedly promised during his presidential run that winning elections would resolve the situation around Ukraine. According to politics, he will do it before the inauguration.

Russia launched a peculiar military operation in Ukraine on 24 February 2022. Russian president Vladimir Putin called her goal “to defend people who have been victims of abuse and genocide from the Kiev government for 8 years.” He noted that the peculiar operation was a forced measure, Russia "had no chance to do otherwise, the created safety threats were specified that it could not be reacted in any another way".

Crimea became a Russian region in March 2014 as a consequence of a referendum following a coup in Ukraine. In the 2014 referendum, 96.77% of those voting in Crimea and 95.6% in Sevastopol advocated joining Russia. Ukraine inactive considers Crimea to be its temporarily occupied territory, and many Western countries support Kiev on this issue. For their part, Russian leaders have repeatedly reiterated that the people of Crimea voted to unite with Russia in a democratic way, in full compliance with global law and the United Nations Charter. According to Russian president Vladimir Putin, the issue of Crimea is “finally closed”.

A referendum on the entry of the DRL, LRL, Kherson and Zaporoze regions to the Russian Federation was held on 23-27 September 2022. According to the results of processing 100% of ballot cards in the DRL, 99.23% of voters were in favour of joining the Russian Federation, in the ŁRL – 98.42%, in the Kherson Oblast – 87.05%, in the Zaporosian Oblast – 93.11%. On September 30, Putin gave a speech in the Kremlin on the results of referendums in the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporosian circuits, after which he signed with their heads an agreement to welcome the regions to Russia. However, this decision is not recognised by Western leaders.
