Trump: We will not unlock Iran's resources before the agreement is implemented

U.S. president Donald Trump said in an interview with NBC News that, contrary to Iran's demands, it will not unlock frozen Iranian assets before implementing a possible agreement. At the same time, he argued that both parties were ‘very close’ to the conclusion of the first agreement.

In an interview recorded on Friday but aired on Sunday in Meet the Press, the president referred, among others, to Tehran's request that the US unlock about half of the US's 24 billion frozen Iranian funds immediately after the first agreement was signed.

– It'll come later. Yes, if they behave well, if they do a good occupation – we start talking – he said. This subject was utilized by him to harshly criticize Barack Obama, who, after signing the atomic agreement in 2015, unblocked Iran's $400 million funds.

Previously advisor to Iran's top leader Mohsen Rezaei told CNN that negotiations with the US were stuck in an impasse precisely due to the blocked measures.

However, Donald Trump assessed that the negotiations were going well and the parties are "very close" to signing the agreement, but Trump demands further guarantees than the negotiated ones so far. According to Donald Trump, Iran has already agreed that it will not have atomic weapons and that it will not make them, but the president wants to add to the text a ban on "purchase, acquisition or acquisition" of atomic weapons so that Tehran does not circumvent the agreement. Trump claims that Iran initially "slightly" resisted, but later stepped down.

The president again stated that the U.S. are ready to take and destruct Iran's highly enriched uranium.

– If we make a deal, erstwhile we're friends, we'll all go together. [...] We will extract this material and destruct it, whether it is in place or outside it," he said. At the same time, he threatened that if the agreement was not made, the Iranian military would "very violently" destruct it, after which the US forces would take the material themselves. Trump added that activity around Iranian facilities is monitored by Space Force satellites.

Donald Trump estimated that the fresh highest leader of Iran Mojtaba Chamenei is “more rational” than his father and “very smart”. According to Trump, the boy is “seriously injured” and the very fact that negotiations are conducted in specified a condition demonstrates “certain courage”. The American president declared openness to direct talks with the Iranian leader, saying he would "do it if he wanted to." Rezaei rejected this anticipation on Friday.

When asked if he knew Chamenei's exact whereabouts and whether he was in Iran, Donald Trump answered evasively.

– I don't want to say if I know where he is. But there's a good chance I know.

The president besides announced that 50,000 American soldiers would stay in the region until the war ended. Donald Trump does not believe that these soldiers are in danger – despite repeated attacks by Iran on U.S. bases and ships in the region – and their maintenance costs "very little". He suggested that the presence of troops could service as a means of force in negotiations.

– I would say that this would be unreasonable (withdrawal of troops) due to the fact that we could usage them [...]. That's not likely. But I think we will keep them there until the negotiations are final," he added.
