Donald Trump will let Vladimir Putin to hold almost the full territory he took from Ukraine under the terms of the proposed peace agreement. This condition is part of a seven-point war ending plan, which leaves Ukraine without a clear safety warrant from the US — reports “The Telegraph”. The plan was to be presented during Wednesday negotiations in London, which yet took a different shape.
— These conditions are highly hard to accept by Ukraine, but I will say plainly: this is the only possible way to halt the war,” says Onet Gen. Bogusław Pacek, manager of the Polish Military Museum in Warsaw.
Let us point out that the American proposal assumes that the US will offer formal designation of Russian sovereignty over Crimea and de facto recognise another occupied territories. This would mean freezing the current front line, allowing Putin to hold almost the full territory acquired by Russia.
— The reality is peculiarly unfavourable to Ukraine today, says Gen. Pacek. “This is not only about military issues, but besides about demography. I conducted investigation in Crimea and the east of Ukraine. These areas have long since been abandoned by people who had Ukrainian roots, they have besides left Lugansk and Donetsk circuits, not all but a crucial part of them. Either they were forced to, or they left behind work. And if you do a referendum there today, the affirmative consequence for Ukraine is very unlikely. This is why Petro Poroshenko disagreed with specified referendums during his presidency – he explains.
"These are Ukrainian lands, but present they cannot be full recovered"
— The situation is very hard due to the fact that it is apparent that these are Ukrainian lands. But the destiny of this war and the hard past of Ukraine and the russian Union, including the displacement of the population, made The east of Ukraine is present mostly populated by ethnically Russian or pro-Russian people – indicated Gen. Pacek.
— I in these areas have been, there almost nobody speaks Ukrainian, only Russian, people go to the Moscow church and are emotionally connected with Moscow more than with Kiev. Not all, but a immense percent of them," he emphasizes.
“I will repeat, these lands, I am talking about Crimea and the areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, belong to Ukraine, but present it is impossible for Kiev to full recover them,” says Gen. Pacek.
- The situation is stale. The Ukrainians must so ask themselves what is their precedence at this phase of the war. Whether the fight to the last drop of blood, or, at the price of protecting life, accept that any territories will proceed to occupy the Russians," he says.
I repeat, they occupied. The problem is, however, that Russia not only wants these lands, but besides demands that their right to these areas be granted global recognition, that is, 1 of the conditions of statehood. For Kiev and the planet to respect these lands as Russian lands, which is peculiarly actual of Crimea. And here I see no solution – the expert admits.
