Romania's Land troops are presently expected to operate about 150 Piranha V wheeled armored transporters in respective varieties that let replacing outdated TAB-71 household wagons. Under the first contract with General Dynamics European Land Systems, 227 vehicles were ordered, the first 30 of which were to be built in the plants of the company. Subsequent copies were to be produced in the Romanian manufacture within the joint venture of GDELS and located in Bucharest Mechanical Plants (UMB).
