The tragedy of Gaza will not settle the conflict over the form of the mediate East

The war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza over six months has caused massive losses, death and demolition on a scale unprecedented in the past of the conflict, but the fighting parties have not come close to achieving their goals. Moreover, despite the focus on Gaza, this is not where the most crucial game in the region takes place. The dispute between Israel and Iran, which besides reached the threshold of war, is fundamental to the mediate East.
