Włodzimierz Czarzasty reported that the Presidency of the Sejm would address the president of the Euro-Parliament Roberta Metsoli with a request to honour Alexander Kwasniewski as an Outstanding associate of the European Order of Merit. Until now, only 2 Poles have received this prestigious award.
Former president Aleksander Kwasniewski may be honored European Order of Merit for promoting and defending European values. The Bureau of the Sejm decided to address Roberty Metsolito award this discrimination to a Polish politician.

The first always European Order of Merit ceremony for European integration activities was held on 19 May in the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
Among the 20 persons awarded were 2 Polish politicians. Wałęsa received the title of Outstanding associate of the European Order of Merit, and Buzek received the title of Honorary associate of the European Order of Merit.

The fresh designation was established by Parliament in May 2025, on the eve of the 75th anniversary Schuman Declarationthat led to the creation of European Coal and Steel Community. Its aim is to appreciate the engagement of politicians and activists meriting integration in the Old Continent and to advance and defend European values.

Candidates to the Order were submitted by the Heads of State and Government of the associate States, the president of national parliaments and the Heads of European Institutions. The award is awarded in 3 categories: Outstanding associate of the European Order of Merit, Honorary associate of the European Order of Merit and associate of the European Order of Merit.

As we read on the website of the European Parliament, the award of the Order is decided by a seven-member committee consisting of the president of the EP, 2 vice-presidents of the EP and 4 prominent European figures. The award, in the form of a medal or a barette bearing depending on the title awarded on the chest or neck, entitles to enter the authoritative gallery during EP plenary sessions.
