There was a serious mistake in counting votes in the second circular of the presidential election in the Krakow electoral commission No 95. The votes given to Rafał Trzaskowski and Karol Nawrocki were misallocated in reverse. The Commission acknowledged the error, but the formal correction was besides late. The case is now dealt with by the electoral institutions and, perhaps, the ultimate Court.

Error that changed the layout
In the first circular of the presidential election held on 18 May, the committee No. 95 at Stawowa Street in Krakow noted the triumph of Rafał Trzaskowski, who received 550 votes. Karol Nawrocki then had 218 votes. The results of the 2nd round, announced after the vote on 1 June, were all the more surprising: according to the authoritative protocol, Nawrocki won as many as 1132 votes, and Trzaskowski only 540.
Local media described the situation as ‘Electable Miracle’, And the residents started asking about the origin of specified a violent change. As it turned out – for a reason.
The Commission acknowledges the mistake
The election commissioner in Krakow, Rafał Sobczuk, confirmed in a conversation with PAP that members of the peripheral electoral commission reported a mistake even before the authoritative approval of the results. "The Commission has attributed the votes that were cast for 1 candidate to another. specified a protocol has been provided and specified data has been introduced into the system’ – Sobczuk said. The mistake was explained by fatigue and misunderstanding erstwhile drawing up documents.
Although the members of the committee noted a mistake, they were no longer able to correct it before the results were transferred to the electoral system. The Regional Election Commission in Krakow conducts an investigation, but its competence is limited.
KBW: we cannot improve results
A spokesperson for the National Election Office Marcin Chmielnicki answered questions about the anticipation to correct data. In his interview with the Polish Press Agency, he noted that the results can now only be verified by the ultimate Court – and only in the context of the examination of electoral protests.
"Responsibility for the appropriate determination of results in a given circuit of pregnancy on a peripheral electoral commission, composed of representatives of various committees, frequently in the presence of men of trust and social observers," the spokesperson recalled.
The ultimate Court can decide
Jakub Kosek, president of the City Council of Krakow, said that the election protest is already being prepared. It may be submitted to the ultimate Court by voters, committees and persons who consider that irregularities may have affected the result of the vote. The deadline is June 7th.
If the protest is recognized, the ultimate Court may decide to re-calculate the votes in a given circuit or even cancel the results of the vote in that committee.
