SW investigation conducted a poll commissioned by "Wprost" asking respondents what they would be guided by erstwhile voting in the presidential election. The survey participants could identify up to 3 key factors that affect their choice.


The most indicated criterion in the SW investigation survey for "Wprost" were the personality features of individual candidates – this consequence was noted by 48,5% of respondents. The second was the content of the programme and the electoral promises – 43.1% of respondents indicated it.

Interestingly, 1 in 5 participants in the survey (22.5 percent) admitted that he voted for a peculiar candidate mainly to block another's victory, treating elections as a form of opposition. another not-fortunate motivations indicated 1.7 percent of respondents, and 5.9 percent declared that they did not vote in the presidential election.

– In public opinion polls, respondents want to appear as rational voters. Thus, a comparatively large percent of recommendations for the election programme – comments for "Wprost" Prof. Agnieszka Kasińska-Metryka, a polytolologist.

He adds: – Meanwhile, more than the programming issues are remembered by promises that are presented during the campaign, e.g. during debates. Furthermore, candidates themselves do not empathize with circumstantial programme points during meetings with voters. They talk at the level of generality, and even fall into the competence that the president does not have.

The expert besides emphasizes the importance of the image: – It is about appearance, appearance, that is, those elements that consist of the alleged presidential format.

He points out that nearly a 4th of the respondents admit that in the presidential election they vote for the alleged lesser evil. This phenomenon will be peculiarly visible in a possible second circular of presidential elections.

The highest percent of specified votes was recorded among women (22.8%), people aged 35-49 and over 50 years of age (24.8%), and people with primary vocational education (26%), earning up to PLN 3 000 net (24.3%) and residents of tiny cities (up to 20,000 inhabitants – 24.6%).

“In Polish realities, the motive behind the vote against, which has been accompanied by us since 1989, is simply a strong determinant – says Prof. Agnieszka Kasińska-Metryka.
