Let us remind you, it was the XXXIV Pilgrimage of the household of Radio Maryja on Jasna Góra. The celebrations were attended by the full PiS drill with Mariusz Błaszczak and fresh vice presidents headed by Przemysław Czarnek and Anna Krupka, not counting Daniel Obiek and another PiS politicians. The letters of Jarosław Kaczyński, Andrzej Duda and Karol Nawrocki were besides read at Jasna Góra.
It was like the Law and Justice. Father Tadeusz Rydzyk arrived and the Bayer Full band gave a performance of Marian songs. There were besides political clergy contributions.
– He won't be a German brother.
– We are ruled by people who specify themselves as Germans.
– Our country's borders are as threatened from the west as from the east.
Poland is ruled by political gangsters today. You most likely were amazed by that strong term, but I only quoted Donald Tusk, Prime Minister of the Government, due to the fact that he said so (...) recently.
This is only a fragment of Bishop Wiesław Mering's speech, which outraged Poles the most.
Another of the hierarchs, Bishop Antoni Długosz, prayed in turn for "the defenders of our borders, those in uniform: border guards, soldiers, policemen, but besides for volunteers from the Border defence Movement".
It's like we're listening to PiS politicians, tv Republic and their supporters.
"Mering and Długosz at the time of PiS regulation were stars"
– For 8 years the regulation of the Law and Justice Church has become accustomed to the fact that politicians are altar ministers of the Catholic Church and give more than the Church can digest. The change in this situation made the Church talk precisely the PiS narrative. It means that there has been large misfortune that the government is unfriendly to the Church. Only due to the fact that the government wants normalization in different spaces: culture, education, education – comments on the well-known theologian Prof. Stanisław Obirek.
He thinks what we saw on Jasna Góra is very sad.
– But you gotta look at it besides in the historical position to realize why these circumstantial hierarchs, like Mering and Długosz, who during the regulation of the Law and Justice were stars, now abruptly feel that their position is marginalized. Not to mention Rydzyk, who was the commander-in-chief, due to the fact that we remember the circles in Toruń and the tributes that Prime Minister Morawiecki, Kaczyński, president of Duda presented to him – he recalls.
This historical background concerns the alleged "Julian church":
– Same here. The very emotional reaction of Rydzyk, Mering and Długosz, fits in precisely with this syndrome of the Church, which is deprived of its right privileges, where the law is replaced by canon law and where all social funds go to the Church and its projects – commented the theologian.
Father Gużyński about the show on Jasna Góra. "Such words in liturgy should not take place"
Words especially bpa. Meringa has provoked widespread outrage. "At Jasna Góra there was a séance of séance and hatred", "A shame for the Episcopal", comments the political X.
– Bishop Mering to others, to strangers, but besides to those who disagree with him, did not behave like Jesus Christ, did not behave like Samaritan, he behaved like an unbrother and a stranger. Unevangelically, contrary to the teaching of Jesus Christ, contrary to the teaching of the church," commented writer Tomasz Terlikowski on TVN24.
The well-known Dominican, Father Paweł Gużyński, assessed in a conversation with Wp.pl: – Bishop Mering does not first prove to us that he is not a "titan of intellect". To say he says things that are unreasonable, irresponsible is not to say anything. It's a manifestation of foolishness, understood as a completely erroneous assessment of the situation.
Even the head of the MFA responded.
Of course, specified words in liturgy should not take place. Liturgy in the Catholic Church is for everyone. Not only for his own sakes – he comments in a conversation with Fr Jacek Prusak, SJ, who has been associated with the "Powszechny Tygodnik".
– It is besides different erstwhile the bishop presents his own opinion. What is different is erstwhile he gives it as if it were the position of the Church, and in this case it sounded like it was. In this sense, this is unacceptable. A place of worship crucial for all Catholics in Poland is utilized to present religion by the only acceptable political prism and this prism inactive sanctifies and treats itself as if it were the same as Catholicism. In my opinion, this is an abuse – he adds.
That was a year ago. This is how Rydzyk attacks from Jasna Góra
It is known that Jasna Góra has been utilized for specified purposes for years. During the regulation of the Law and Justice, that was normal. But a year ago, erstwhile the PiS had already lost power, the pilgrimage of the Radio Maryja household was besides held there with a political pump.
– And here again for any time the open war with the Catholic Church and religion has returned in Poland. It is illegal to reduce the teaching of religion in schools by discriminating children attending spiritual lessons. one more time the cross is removed from public space – the Bishop of Ignacy Dec was thundering.
Michał Woś, Marcin Romanowski and Daniel Obietek, among others, were present from the politicians of PiS. besides Mariusz Błaszczak, who besides read Jarosław Kaczyński's letter, as now.
– On Jasna Góra there are those who fought for law, justice, truth, human rights, and now want to convict them – Fr Rydzyk spoke.
This time he peculiarly attacked Barbara Nowacka, the head of MEN. What do you think you are, woman? Poland is not your farm – Poland heard.
The brakes on Jasna Góra went off again.
However, it seems that from the bishops' mouth rather a long time ago we have not heard words like those of Mering. In the presidential campaign, the Episcopate even appealed to avoid political agitation. Here, on Jasna Góra, it's like the brakes are moving again.
– This page revived due to the fact that it has a Catholic president and guarantees that there will be no constitutional changes that are not beneficial to the Church in Poland. Now there is simply a sense of returning to power and victory," recalls Fr Jacek Prusak.
According to him, this was shown during the weekend pilgrimage to Jasna Góra.
– It's celebrating that we're not in catacombs, underground, but that this page is consolidating and it looks like it's getting bigger. And I'm certain he'll take over. It was a demonstration that Jasna Góra was always "our place" and no 1 would take it from us. And this is where we announce we're coming back. I think it is an anticipation of return – says Fr Prusak in an interview with the subject.
It besides predicts that we can experience more of these events again.
– The fact that there will be specified happenings and meetings is in my opinion unavoidable. This is the dynamics of specified a group. It merges them. It's their ritual. It works on a certain electorate. It is visible, it gives a sense of community, place and belonging. The failure is only that Jasna Góra became synonymous with the Church of 1 party. It is simply a pilgrimage place, not a organization place. And it is consciously utilized for this purpose," he says.
Other bishops sit quietly, though they dislike the fraternization of the Church from the Law and Justice
But let us remember that this is not the voice of all the hierarchs.
– Of course it is not the voice of the full Church. Only, the problem is, those who think differently don't talk. We know there are specified bishops, but they don't say that. Their voice is inaudible – says Prof. Obirek.
Fr Prusak believes that any bishops may be outraged at what happened during the weekend on Jasna Góra.
– It goes to their account. Even if they sympathize with this political side, they may feel that language must be utilized differently. But there is no reason to anticipate that there will be joint declarations of bishops afraid or even offended by what is happening on Jasna Góra. You can't anticipate that. Rather, there will be silence – he says.
From here on Jasna Góra we will most likely not feel the change soon.
As Fr Prusak says, each side has its own backyard. 1 makes happenings in places of worship, the another is anti-PiS and anti-Church. They'll say, "Who's gonna forbid us?" This is simply a feedback compression. They think they gotta defend themselves. And the Episcopate has not radically changed. I don't think that the signal of Prohibition of specified speeches will come from his side – he thinks.
- The church is not a party. We must realise that there is no way to introduce organization discipline here and impose only 1 vision, due to the fact that they will say that they do not separate politics from religion in individual life and have the right to do so," he says.
Who's Bishop Mering and Long?
Bishop Mering has been a bishop of the diocese of Wroclaw since 2021. For years, he spoke powerfully on the right side of the political scene.
"He is simply a regular guest of the celebration of Radio Maryja and tv Trwam. Nor does he hide his support for the Law and Justice. erstwhile Andrzej Duda won the presidential election, Bishop Mering rushed with lowly congratulations: 'This election gives millions of Poles hope and will let them to cultivate what Poland has lived for many centuries' – we wrote about it on Thematic in 2019.
He gave specified a eulogy to Kaczyński: "I would very much like you to feel here, between us, a man not only accepted but admired. We are grateful for everything you do and did for Poland – together with your brother Prof. Lech Kaczyński. Your successes are our successes."
It is no surprise that specified words have now come out of his mouth.
– He's had all sorts of problematic statements before. His past is problematic too. He creates himself as a moral authority, and never reckons with his own past. I think it's an escape from him. In order to exist, he became active with the community of Radio Maryja. At first, erstwhile he became bishop, he didn't think like he did now. But he knew that only in this church niche can it mean something to the faithful," says the clergyman.
Years ago – we besides described this in the subject – Mering was alternatively associated with the "Wszystko Tygodnik" environment, but in 2008 in the IPN archives his portfolio of cooperation with the Polish safety Service was found.
The "Rzeczpospolita" described at the time that as TW Lucjan he was regularly awarded financial and luxury alcohol and abroad trips for his tips. The bishop himself defended himself as "signing nothing." And he only met with SB erstwhile he was trying to get a passport.
Also Bishop Antoni Długosz, the Częstochowa hierarch, was associated with PiS. A fewer years ago, the movie with the Jasna Góra Appeal made it a hit of the Internet. The clergyman utilized the evening prayer in the Chapel of the Miraculous Image to make a PiS laurel. He compared Luke Shumowski and Mateusz Morawiecki to evangelists.
His words about pedophilia were besides loud, for which he later apologized.
"That's what we learned from this weekend. That the State and the Church capitulated"
Prof. Obirek believes that what happened on Jasna Góra now does not matter. All we needed was this environment.
– This is an effort to return to the hope of a relentless synthesis of bad politics and bad religion. This has happened for 10 years, and I hope it's history. Doesn't mean it has any meaning. In my opinion, it is absolutely devoid of it, apart from political and spiritual curiosity," he says.
But by the way, he sees a lesson coming from this weekend.
– I think it's extreme. Insult. Especially due to the fact that it was in the context of the disgusting anti-Semitic speeches of Grzegorz Braun. I am amazed that neither the Church nor the State is entering this place decisively. due to the fact that these are words, deeds that are clearly criminalized in law. And it should be ex officio punished," he says.
He thinks it's a sin of negligence.
– This is absolute indolence and state, and the Church in a situation that demands intervention. due to the fact that if not in specified a situation, why do we have a state, why do we have an institution which, by vocation, is expected to mark amoral behaviour and hatred speech? He doesn't do that. That's what we learned from this weekend. That the state and the Church capitulated – commented the theologian.
