The Ukrainian Ministry of abroad Affairs issued a peculiar message after the Polish National Day of Polish Memory – Victims of Genocide made by the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and Ukrainian Insurgency Army at the east ends of the Second Republic. Kiev assessed the initiative of Polish MPs as "contrary to the spirit of good neighbourly relations".

This week, the Sejm established on 11 July the National Day of Memory of Poles – Victims of Genocide made by the CNS and UPA on east lands of the Second Republic of Poland.

"The main intent of the bill is to celebrate the remembrance of the martyrdom of more than 1 100 1000 Poles, mainly the villagers who died at the hands of nationalists from the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (CNS), the Ukrainian Insurgency Army (UPA) and another Ukrainian nationalist formations operating in the lands of the East Borders of the Second Republic of Poland in 1939 – 1946" - was passed in the justification for the resolution.

Kiev criticized the Sejm for setting up the Day of Memory for Victims of the UN/UPA Genocide

The initiative did not like the authorities in Kiev. A peculiar statement, which was published on Thursday morning by the Ukrainian MFA, assessed the resolution as "contrary to the spirit of good neighbourly relations" and disfavoring reconciliation of both nations.

"The Ministry of abroad Affairs of Ukraine evaluates the resolution of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland to establish on 11 July the Day of the Memorial of Victims of the alleged > > Genocide done by the CNS and UPA in the east territory of the Second Republic of Poland as contradicting the spirit of good neighbourly relations between Ukraine and Poland", the Ukrainian side said. The Ukrainian MFA adds that "such actions do not advance common reconciliation".

"We call on the Polish side to refrain from activities that may lead to increased tension in bilateral relations and undermine the achievements achieved through constructive dialog and cooperation between Ukraine and Poland", the Ministry of Diplomacy of Ukraine calls for.

Although in Kiev the resolution of the Polish Sejm was considered to be “party” and placed in a “political context”, Ukrainians reminded of the work on exploration and exhumation in Poland, which continued in western Ukraine – the erstwhile east ends.

"We already have concrete results, which should besides be developed in the future. one more time we remind that Poles should not search enemies among Ukrainians, and Ukrainians should not search enemies among Poles. Our enemy is common – it is Russia" - emphasized the Ukrainian Ministry of abroad Affairs.
