Russian media reported that Ambassador Sergei Andreev will shortly complete his diplomatic mission in Poland. The diplomat is due to return to Russia in September, and a fresh ambassador will come to his place. Who will replace him? We don't know yet.


Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported that Sergei Andreev would complete her diplomatic mission in September of that year and return to Russia. It has not been revealed who will replace it, but it is known that a fresh ambassador is to come to Poland. The reasons for Andreyev's appeal were not given.

Sergei Andreev completes his diplomatic mission in Poland


He was the first to inform Interia.pl about the departure of Andreyev. A spokesperson for the Polish Ministry of abroad Affairs, Paweł Wroński, answered only that the ministry "does not comment on the matter", but besides did not deny these reports.

Sergei Andreev is an experienced Russian diplomat. He became Ambassador to Poland in 2014. He previously served as advisors to the Russian embassy in Portugal, ambassador to Angola and Norway.

Andreyev's activity in Poland was controversial. A diplomat, openly supporting Kremlin's narrative, repeatedly justified the Russian invasion of Ukraine, calling it according to Russian propaganda "a peculiar military operation". He was besides called upon by the Polish MFA in connection with the statements of Russian politicians and the actions of the Kremlin aimed at Poland.

MFA decision to close the Russian consulate


Polish-Russian relations deteriorated importantly after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Despite tensions, however, both countries keep formal diplomatic relations. Russian media remind that in May Polish authorities decided to liquidate the Russian consulate in Krakow.

As we wrote on Temat.pl, Radosław Sikorski said at the time: "In connection with the evidence that the Russian peculiar services carried out a shameful act of diversion towards the mall in Marivilska, I decided to retreat my consent to the Russian Federation consulate in Krakow".

After this decision Russia remained only the embassy in Warsaw and the consulate in Gdańsk. A spokesperson for the Russian MFA Maria Zacharowa then announced that Moscow would take retaliatory steps.
