This information was provided by the NBU press service, indicating that the fresh banknotes would be gradually put into circulation in various denominations.
New banknote denominations
The National Bank of Ukraine announced a detailed timetable for the introduction of fresh banknotes into circulation:
- From 8 August 2024: denominations 500 and 1000 hryvnia
- From August 23, 2024: face value of 50 hryvnia
- In subsequent years: denominations 20, 100 and 200 hryvnia
Modified banknotes will function as legal tender in parallel with banknotes with corresponding denominations from erstwhile years of issue.
Controversial password
The slogan “The fame of U Krajini” (Glory of Ukraine) and the consequence “herojam fame!” (Glory to the heroes) have a long and controversial story. It was an organizational greeting of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (CNS), which is liable for the execution of over 100,000 Poles. By 1943, this greeting active a fascist motion raised his right hand.
The slogan was popularized during protests on Kiev Maidan in 2014, and in October 2018 it became the authoritative salute of the Ukrainian army and police.
Historical and social contexts
During the protests in Majdan, the slogan “The fame of Urodini, the hero of fame” became popular as an expression of patriotism and national solidarity. However, its roots date back to the times of planet War II and the activities of the CNS. At that time, this organization, led by Stepan Bandera, conducted brutal cultural cleansings, including mass murders in Poles in Volyn and east Galicia.
Modern Controversies
This greeting creates different reactions, both in Ukraine and abroad. For many Ukrainians it is simply a symbol of the conflict for independency and brave defence of the country, especially in the context of the conflict with Russia. For others, especially in Poland, this slogan is simply a reminder of tragic events from the past.
Impact on Modern Events
As we informed earlier, the slogan “The fame of Ugrajini, the hero of fame” was chanted by Ukrainian fans at the Dynam Kiev match with Rangers F.C. played in Lublin. The Kiev squad had previously taken Serbian Partizan Belgrade and the match ended with a score of 6:2 for Dynamo. During both meetings at the stadium, this controversial greeting sounded.
Summary
