The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy (MRPiPS) will announce by 30 June the conditions for participation in the groundbreaking piloting of reduced working time. The task aims to test fresh solutions that can change the labour marketplace in Poland.
Innovative solution for employers and workers
– In this part of Europe, in our region it will be an innovative solution, it will be the first chance to test on a wider scale how this civilisational request works said Minister Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk during a press conference.
Pilotage is intended to cover a wide scope of participants, including:
- entrepreneurs,
- local government units,
- foundations and associations,
- trade unions.
The key condition will be retention of the existing remuneration while reducing working time.
What will the shortening of working time look like?
The Ministry shall indicate respective possible paths to implement the changes:
- reduction of hours on selected working days,
- reduced weekly hours,
- reduced working days,
- extension of leave.
– This pilot will aim to show employers and employees what opportunities are and what solutions work under circumstantial conditions. – explained Dziemianowicz-Bąk.
10 million PLN of support from the Labour Fund
MRPiPS plans to allocate PLN 10 million in the first year to support employers implementing reduced working time. The appropriations may be utilized for:
- process optimization,
- development of fresh interior regulations,
- management staff training.
– If our program is more interested, next year we are ready to increase funding – announced the minister.
Poland in the global trend of shortening working time
Dziemianowicz-Bąk stressed that the shortened week of work is simply a solution tested in another countries:
- France – 35-hour week since 2000,
- Belgium – a maximum of 38 hours per week,
- Denmark – 37 hours,
- Spain – will shortly introduce a 35-hour week.
– Time simplification is introduced in modern, developed economies, which we (...) want and can include Poland “The minister concluded.
When does the pilot start?
To 30 June detailed rules of the programme will be announced and the first companies will be able to implement changes already in 2025.
