Donald Tusk's government plans to shift the introduction of fresh electricity tariffs to October 1, 2025, alternatively of initially assumed 1 July. The intent of this amendment is to reduction in electricity prices for households in the second half of the year.
Why does the government want to decision the fresh fares?
As shown by List of legislative work of the Council of Ministers, the government intends to amend the Act which will hold the tariff change. It's expected to let it. better reflect current wholesale energy priceswhich are presently developing at the level 400-500 zł/MWh.
‘The basic amendment that is proposed to be introduced to the Act (with circumstantial solutions to defend electricity consumers in 2023 and in 2024 in view of the situation on the electricity market) is an indication as to start the application of the amended electricity price tariffs on 1 October 2025 alternatively of the 1 presently indicated in the Act on 1 July 2025.’ – reads the authoritative document.
How will this affect Polish accounts?
Currently Public sellers they are required to submit applications for a change in household tariffs for the second half of 2025. By postponement, energy prices can more reflect the situation on the wholesale marketwhich will translate into lower accounts.
"Current conditions for the improvement of prices in wholesale electricity markets (PLN 400-500/MWh) indicate the space to lower prices in tariffs for electricity of sellers acting as public-service retailers." – highlighted in the justification of the project.
What else will change the rules?
The amendment besides provides for technical changesto enable President of the Energy Regulatory Office (URE) and energy companies to implement the fresh rules efficiently.
