candidate for president of Slovakia and Head of Parliament of the Republic, Peter Pellegrini, believes that the reinforcement of Ukraine is ineffective and can yet lead to disaster.

"Of course, I do not support continuing to keep the conflict by sending weapons there for the 3rd year. It doesn't lead to anything, only 10 1000 more military and civilians will die. If we want to proceed sending only weapons to Ukraine, I have serious concerns that this could end in an even bigger disaster than present if the front had stopped where it is now," said RTVS tv during the last pre-election discussion before 2 days of silence.

His rival in the election, erstwhile Slovak abroad Minister Ivan Korčok, believes that NATO's plans to make a military aid fund for Kiev of EUR 100 billion are a "specific example of cooperation". However, he assured that if he won the election, he would not urge Slovakia to make commitments that the country would not be able to fulfil.

In the second circular of the presidential elections in Slovakia, scheduled for 6 April, Korčok received 42.51 percent of the vote, and Pellegrini, who won 37.02 percent of the vote, advanced out of 9 candidates.

Pellegrini is head of parliament and is the president of the Hlas organization ("Voice"), which is part of a government coalition with the organization of Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico, known for his criticism of pumping weapons into Ukraine. He besides believes that the conflict in Ukraine has no military solution and advocates fast peace talks.

Korčok said he rejected "false calls for peace and the fact that Ukraine should accept the fact that it would lose part of its territory". According to the erstwhile Slovak abroad Minister, the prerequisite for peace will be “to halt fighting by Russia” and in the meantime, as Korčok said, Slovakia has a work to support Ukraine and “to do everything in its power to defend itself”.

Both 59-year-old Korčok and 48-year-old Pellegrini had previously said they would not have allowed the Slovak army to be sent to Ukraine if they had won the presidential election.
