3 million – or 60 percent of Paraguay's adult population – lost access to their money. The Santiago Peña Ueno Bank, which was linked to the businesses of president Santiago Peña, collapsed, in which state pensions were inflated. Parliament stripped the head of state of his immunity and the police put him under home arrest.
