The Maritime Authority in Gdynia has cancelled the tender for the improvement of documentation for the last section of the waterway to the port of Elbląg in the framework of the excavation. The reason for this was procedural errors and doubts about the cost estimate. Although the tender is repeated, the hold raises questions about the future of this investment.

Procedural errors and cost estimates
The Maritime Authority in Gdynia informed that the tender for the improvement of the plan documentation of the water track on the Elbląg River had been cancelled. 2 main reasons for this decision were identified. Firstly, the tender announcement is placed in the incorrect publication. Secondly, doubts arose as to how to estimation the value of the contract.
The section covered by the tender is simply a little than a kilometer section of the water track to be deepened to 5 metres. The work will besides include the strengthening of the banks and the construction of a rotor for ships with a diameter of 160 metres.
The Maritime Authority ensures that the cancellation of the tender does not mean that the investment is abandoned. The fresh tender procedure will be announced in the coming days.
History of the water track finish dispute
The construction of the canal by Wiślana was 1 of the key investments of the erstwhile government. It allows individuals to influence the Vistula Basin and yet to port in Elbląg without having to usage the Russian Piławska Strait.

As of January 2024, work has been underway to deepen the watercourse on the Elbląg River. As part of the 4th phase of construction, the bottoms were cleared from obstacles specified as reinforced concrete and military residues. The planned track depth is 5 metres to let full usage of port infrastructure.
The full dimension of the waterway from Gdańsk Bay to Elbląg will be almost 23 km. Of this, more than 10 km falls on the Vistula River, and a akin dimension on the Elbląg River. An additional 2.5 km includes the airlock, external port and parking station.
