Péter Magyar is Viktor Orbán's main rival in the next year's parliamentary elections in Hungary. The leader of the Hungarian opposition in the latest interview told what advice he had for Marcin Romanowski, who received political asylum in his homeland. The PiS politician won't be happy.

– If I were to give him (Marcin Romanowski – ed.) any advice, it is that the closer the elections in Hungary, the more he should increase his efforts to find a fresh country in which he hides. We are bound by global treaties that are very clear," said Péter Magyar in an interview with "Gazeta Wyborcza".

Magyar with advice for Romanowski

– It is crazy that 1 EU associate State gives asylum to another EU national who is wanted for criminal charges. This is not the nonsubjective of asylum – he stressed and noted that "the Prime Minister Orbán decided to allocate this asylum, and this should not be the case in democracy."

– Our Prime Minister will not decide this due to the fact that there are state institutions and courts for this," he added.

Let us remind you that the parliamentary elections in Hungary are scheduled for April 2026. Péter Magyar is the leader of the TISZA respect and Freedom organization and Viktor Orbán's top political rival. The polls over the past fewer months show the advantage of the TISZA organization over Fidesz Prime Minister Orban, amounting to respective percent points.

Let us add that Marcin Romanowski, erstwhile Deputy Minister of Justice and associate of the Law and Justice, has been in Hungary since December 2024, where he obtained political asylum. His departure coincided with his investigation into irregularities in the management of the Justice Fund. The prosecution has charged him with 11 counts, including participation in an organized crime group.
