Polish defence line in NATO's wider plan
Deputy defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk reported on 21 August that the Shield of the East was entered into the American east Flank Deterrence Initiative. According to him, this means Poland's partnership with the US, large Britain, Germany and France within NATO. For Poland, real defence of the border with Belarus and the royal circuit is at stake, not paper declarations.
Tomczyk wrote that the European defence line begins in Finland, passes through the Baltic States, continues through Poland and heads towards Romania. This conviction reflects a change that the Russian war forced in the West. The east flank is not an addition to the safety of the continent. He's his test.
How They study == sync, corrected by elderman == and Interia, Deputy Minister connected the Polish task with the American initiative and thanked his allies for their support. In the background are further plans for the improvement of the Shields of the East and the east Sword programme presented by the MON. That sounds technical, but for the people of east Poland it means the simplest thing: whether the state can prepare the area before the opponent takes the first step.
The east Shield only makes sense as a viable infrastructure
Official program page describes The Shield of the East as a task planned for the years 2024-2028, to increase Poland's resilience to hybrid attacks and actions. In practice, it is about firewalls, engineering terrain preparation, reconnaissance, drone systems, logistics and the ability to hold the opponent. There's no area for propaganda photos from the conference. Either you have the ability or you have the folder.
DN wrote earlier about critical questions about the government's east Shield program. This skepticism remains necessary. Patriotism in defence matters is not about clapping all government team, but about checking whether money, equipment and decisions make a real advantage. Concrete in the incorrect place is at cost. Concrete, sensors and logistics in a good place are a life insurance policy.
The American Army describes Eastern Flank Deterrence Initiative as a task reinforcing deterrence on the east flank by unmanned systems, live data, command networks and layer defence. It's the language of modern war. Russia tests boundaries, drones and political responses. Poland must respond faster than the procedures in the cabinets.
Tomczyk about Nawrock and State interest
The second subject is political, but worth noting. Tomczyk wrote that he was rooting for Charles Nawrock in relations with the US, due to the fact that all patriot should support his own country. That conviction should be obvious. In Poland politicians treat abroad policy besides frequently as an extension of the organization dispute, although state safety is not a toy of any camp.
For the president of Nawrock, relations with Washington are 1 of the most crucial fields of action. For the government, too. If Polish institutions fight against the US, Moscow will get a gift for free. If they compete for efficiency, Poland will gain.
This can besides be seen in the wider arms and air defence dispute. erstwhile DN described Patriot dispute for Ukraine and Polish shieldThe point was similar: helping allies must not weaken the safety of Poles. A serious state first counts its own abilities and then makes promises.
Alliance yes, vassality no
The inclusion of the Polish Shield East in the American deterrent logic is beneficial if it strengthens the real control of Warsaw over its own security. The alliance with the US is strategical for Poland. However, it does not exempt us from the work to build our own industry, reserves, infrastructure and social resilience.
Tough national realism is clear: alliances are needed, but an ally respects first and foremost a state that itself bears a burden. If the Shield East becomes the backbone of the defence of the border, it will be the success of Poland. If it becomes just a slogan for the conference, the bill will be paid by citizens in the east of the country. You can't fake advancement here. It needs to be built.
