Art not to be admired, but to live. Abakanovich at the Royal Castle

In the spaces of the Royal Castle guests appeared completely me on this classical different building: legion of sculptures by Magdalena Abakanowicz. The exhibition, launched in early December, gathers works of the artist about transcontental fame, which could already be seen in different contexts, but not yet in this, completely unobvious.

The title “Confrontations” takes place here in the 18th century interior of the Royal Library: creative confrontations of classical art with modern, enlightenment with impulses, state collection with private survivors of the war-torn library interiors with a war context of sculptures, a carved unified crowd with individual sensations of visitors, static statues with expressive dance (for the intent of the exhibition there was a choreographic arrangement performed by students of the Gdańsk National Ballet School). Not a trivial decoration, but a vibrant, stimulating confrontation was art for the author herself. The distributed exhibition is arranged in a war story, so current, pronunciation.

The works collected under the castle roof, as well as the sky (eight standing in the courtyard of the Bronze Characters) come from the Foundation Marta Magdalena Abakanowicz Kosmowska and Jan Kosmowski, the National Museum in Wrocław and Krupa Gallery in Wrocław.

The curators of the exhibition (Katarzyn Rogalska, Mariusz Klarecki) state: it is not art to admire, but to experience – a chance for these capital experiences (which is besides provided by a rich programme of accompanying events) you have until 19 February.
