‘Financial discipline’
The financial situation of Polish tv in the context of next year was addressed by TVP CEO Tomasz Sygut. In his interview with “Gazeta Wyborcza”, he acknowledged that further cuts in spending would be highly hard for the company. At the same time, he pointed out the scale of savings developed in fresh years, stressing that in 2024 costs were reduced by nearly PLN 600 million, which led the institution to the limit of possibilities.
Sygut besides revealed what kind of budget the Polish tv could anticipate in 2026.
If we keep financial discipline, we will request 2 billion PLN 200 million. How long will it be? – he said.
The Director-General of Polish tv presented the financial situation for the coming year from 2024, erstwhile crucial budget reductions were besides carried out. Visible cost cut
The cost-cutting strategy of TVP has been visible for any time now. An example of specified policy was the decision of August this year to abandon the organisation of the presentation of the autumn framework, justified by the request for liable management of resources. In consequence to information on financial problems emerging in the media, the station representatives pointed to the National Broadcasting Council, accusing it of blocking the access of Polish tv to funds from the subscription.
At the time, the Minister of Culture explained:
The funds allocated to MKiDN by the decisions of the Minister of Finance to date in the amount of PLN 1 186,411,068, from the peculiar reserve of the state budget are insufficient and secured the needs of the Polish tv (...) The timely transfer by the National Broadcasting Council to public media companies in the liquidation of funds from a basic subscription, the deficiency of compensation for lost subscription revenues in the form of securities, poses serious financial problems for the companies in question in the implementation of the public mission.
