Sudan: 12 people died from a drone attack in North Kordofan Province

At least 12 people died present as a consequence of a drone attack in front of a courthouse building in the army-controlled town of Umm Rawaba, North Kordofan Province, Central Sudan, reported a medical source, as quoted by AFP. The attack was to be carried out by rebels from the fast Support Force (RSF).

As witnesses reported, the attack occurred erstwhile residents gathered in administrative matters.

One of them said he was close the courthouse and saw “a drone hitting a tree in front of the building.” He added that there were many people in the area at the time.

– After the drone hit, we tried to save people, but any died at the scene," another witness said. He stressed that "the bang of the blast was very powerful."

North Kordophan is rich in gold and oil and is strategically crucial for controlling the country. The state is now 1 of the places where the armed conflict for power in Sudan continues.

The civilian war in this country has been going on since April 2023. It erupted as a consequence of a power conflict between an army faithful to the government and rebels from the RSF. According to UN data, military action forced any 14 million people to leave homes. The organization identifies the ongoing situation as the worst humanitarian crisis in the world.
