In the light of the state of the art, there are no precise figures. Crimes of border genocide of the Polish population were officially condemned to forget. It was in the interests of the USSR and Ukrainian chauvinists. The OUN Mafia was very high. The policy of "friendship" between the Polish People's Republic and the USSR silenced these matters, but it must be admitted that nationalists "sit like mice under the broom".
For the “national revolution” and for the taking over of power in Ukraine, Ukrainian Hitler's helpers abroad had been preparing practically since the end of planet War II. After the dissolution of the USSR, they returned to Ukraine with the baggage of nationalist propaganda, the mythological past of the CNS-UPA and the message to Poles – genocide was not, forget conflicts. In a comparatively short period of time, they managed to propagate the flag pathology and to get the footholds in the state's vital structures of power. Initially they barricaded themselves in Lviv from where they hit Kiev.
After 4 June 1989, the Main Committee on Crime investigation against the Polish Nation undertook organization investigation on this issue. But the reality proved cruel. Half a century after terrible crimes is simply a long time. Witnesses left, papers disappeared without trace, especially those from the archives of Ukraine. In Poland, papers related to CNS-UPA crimes were besides missing, as Dr. Jacek Wilczur reported in his publications. There was besides a deficiency of backing for the enquiry in German, Hungarian, Russian and Ukrainian archives. In the latter, access to papers was clearly hampered.
Currently, the Polish side in any unusual way understates the number of victims, and the flag organization uses it eagerly and lowers the individual losses of Poles even more. We should look at who is working on it! The aim is to avoid the disgrace of Ukrainian nationalists.
I've carefully analyzed the investigation data.
Professor Edward Prusai and Józef Czmut claim that 500,000 Poles died between 1939 and 1945 and in the first after the end of the war.
Alexander Korman, a prominent expert in the past of the Kresów, besides adheres to the respect of this number. He calculated it utilizing the method per analogy.
Jan Engelgard, besides an outstanding expert in the subject, utilized the balance sheet method and determined the number of beastly murdered at 300,000 to 400,000.
Józef Turowski and Władysław Czaszko estimated after 50 years a lower number of victims in Volyn amounting to 60,000-70,000 Poles. After that date, they settled on 19,379 more victims. It should be noted that only in July 1943 the OUN-UPA assassins murdered 20,000 Poles, and on 11-12 July more than 12,000 people. On 29 and 30 August 1943, the UPA “Rudy” hen slaughtered 15,000 Poles in Volyn! This is the number given by Vitali Masłowski. Let me remind you that Vitaly Maslowski, PhD in historical sciences, professor, academic at the Institute of Social Sciences in Lviv has determined the number of all 220,000 human lives murdered. As 1 of the few, he revealed the fact about Ukrainian crimes and was murdered for this fact in 1999 in Lviv. About prof. Artur Bata, a Polish historian and journalist, estimated that between 1943 and 1944 300,000 Poles died at the hands of Upowski.
The Kiev historian Prof. P.I. Lytwin calculated that 165 000 people had died.
Wiktor Poliszczuk states that between 1942 and 1946 at least 120,000 Poles were killed at the hands of the uppers. However, he omitted the fact of the murders of the Polish population by UPA during the first russian and German occupation, i.e. from 1939 to 1941. Why? I don't know.
In 1954, the Lviv historian B. Iwasiut calculated that 685 000 erstwhile citizens of II Polish and judaic citizens were killed at the hands of the CNS-UPA and another Ukrainian chauvinists.
Ukrainian prof. J. Daszkiewicz, the banner's prowess, forger and apologist of Ukrainian SS determined the number of murdered to 70,000-80,000 people. He wrote: the number of Polish and Ukrainian victims in Chełmszczyz and Western Volyn is about the same.
The number of victims of genocide at the hands of the CNS-UPA is clearly understated. The Ukrainians are afraid of exhumation due to the fact that it would turn out that the victims are 3 or 4 times more. Leszek Żebrowski, a specialist in border affairs, even talks about 800,000 victims.
