During the session of the Zakopane City Council held on Friday, 1 December, the councillors adopted a municipal anti-violence programme in the family. Despite the majority support (18 people in favour, just 3 against), the atmosphere during the session was stormy, mainly due to the visit of Deputy Minister Anna Schmidt of Law and Justice (PiS).
Unexpectedly, the controversy was aroused by the Councillors of the United Right who had previously delayed the adoption of the program for years. Their attitude effectively blocked the process. However, there has now been a extremist change, reminiscent of conversion, akin to that of the PiS Members erstwhile voting in the Sejm on in vitro backing from the state budget.
It is interesting that 2 draft resolutions were submitted to the City Council in the same case. However, both were almost identical, with the draft of the United Right, which was discussed on 1 December, the entry concerning the participation of NGOs in the implementation of the programme was deleted. Meanwhile, the second project, prepared by opposition councillors, was postponed for 4 December. As a result, the session had its controversial moments, peculiarly in connection with the abrupt change in the attitude of the Councillors of the United Right to combat home violence.
– What happened to you guys abruptly changing your head so radically by 180 degrees? Those who admit their mistake should not be ashamed. But they should be ashamed of those who present want to be the first to adopt this resolution in an unworthy manner, in violation of procedures. – asked Councillor Stanisław Karp.
– In the past, Ordo Iuris was brought here, and you were commended for your opposition by Beata Szydło. all time you said this resolution was unacceptable. They did not aid to meet with the police, where officers gave immense statistic on household violence. And now there's a race about who's going to be the first to pass this resolution? – said Councillor Marek Donatowicz.
An incidental with the Deputy Minister
The session was attended by Deputy Minister Anna Schmidt, who abruptly joined the discussion and reprimanded opposition councillors.
– For you in this push for an hr of filing documents, who was the first, and who was the second, are the another crucial victims of violence? – said, only making the temper worse.
– What are you even doing here? For 10 years the people of Zakopane could not ask for these regulations, and now you come here to collect the order?! Councilman Grzegorz Józwiak asked.
– You plotted intrigue by involving councilmen and even the Deputy Minister. Only to make this spectacular defeat a success – Stanisław Karp thundered.
