The decision was made after the politician supported the bill reducing the wellness contribution for entrepreneurs. The case caused a storm among the club members, and Wozniak himself accepted the decision with humility, though he did not hide disappointment.
Why did Left get free of her senator?
According to Onet, the decision to exclude Wozniak was made during the club's distant gathering in Gniezno, where the celebrations related to the 1000th anniversary of Bolesław Chrobry's coronation were held. Most members of the club were in favour of removing the senator, and only 3 politicians – Waldemar Witkowski, Stanisław Pawlak and Włodzimierz Karpiński – abstained.
According to journalists, the discussion on Wozniak was full of sharp attacks, especially from Anna Maria Żukowska. He himself curious in talking to Onet stated that his removal was "the consequence of being independent and going against the current".
– The decision is not a surprise to me. I want my friends and friends all the best. I'd like the Left to support the government, due to the fact that lately there's a problem. – commented Wozniak, who will now sit in the legislature as an independent senator.
Health contribution dispute
The direct reason for the exclusion of Wozniak was his support for a bill reducing the wellness contribution for entrepreneurs. On Wednesday, the legislature voted this change – There were 58 Senators, against 36, and 3 abstained. Most PiS and Left politicians voted against, nevertheless Wozniak broke club discipline and advocated a reduction.
The reaction from the leadership of the Left was immediate. Anna Maria Żukowska, head of the parliamentary club, announced on social media that she had applied for the exclusion of Wozniak.
– For the Left, patients' welfare and wellness performance are the priority. These are non-negotiable issues – Żukowska wrote on platform X.
What about Wozniak?
Although the politician lost his seat at the left club, he announced that in a akin situation he would vote the same again. His decision shows that among parliamentarians there are inactive people willing to act against organization directives if they consider it right.
Will this situation affect the future of the Left? Will the organization start losing more independent politicians? These questions will be answered within months.
