**Konrad Wysocki: Gazeta Polska:“To drive out the aggressor”**
"The creation of the alleged Baltic defender by NATO is assessed as a good but late step, for example, due to the fact that we have been dealing with the intensification of sabotage in the Baltic Sea region for many months now. Their goal is critical infrastructure, mainly a network of offshore cables. Another of them, connecting Sweden to Latvia, was damaged in late January, so after the North Atlantic Alliance announced additional actions. This time the fibre wire connecting Elevator to Swedish Gotland was damaged. The accident was detected on the morning of 26 January, in the exclusive economical region of Sweden, at a depth of 100 m. The units that floated in the area were immediately taken under the microscope. As a result, the Swedish services were occupied by the Bulgarian bulk ship ‘Yezhen’, flying the flag of Malta, which had been at the scene a fewer hours earlier. So it seems that the course of events was almost identical to erstwhile events of this kind in the Baltic. A ship flying the flag of another country caught an anchor by a cable, causing harm to it. On the same day, officers of the Swedish task force appeared on the mass ship. first inspection confirmed the unit has a damaged anchor. The management of the company that owns the bulk ship immediately dismissed the allegations of sabotage. (...) Will the fresh NATO mission to the Baltic contribute to the overall improvement of safety in the region? No doubt. But will it lead to the disappearance of specified incidents? Not necessarily. This event took place 2 weeks after NATO announced a fresh mission. In addition, Russia, the main fishy in the full case, continues to accuse the West of building “artificial barriers” in the Baltic and militarisation of the region, which must meet with the “adequate” Kremlin response.”
