Acting in the shadows, you carry out tasks of the highest importance – wrote president Karol Nawrocki to peculiar troops on the occasion of their celebration in Krakow. The function of the specialists was besides highlighted in his letter by Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish. The formation celebrates present the 19th anniversary of its existence.

Specialists celebrated in Krakow, where it is located Special Forces Component Command, which he stands at Gen. div. Michał Strzelecki. “I convey to all soldiers and peculiar troops the words of highest designation and respect,” wrote president Karol Nawrocki in a letter to the participants of the ceremony. "Thanks to the country's unique skills, Poland occupies a unique place in the allied structure", emphasised the head of the armed forces.

A reliable partner

As the president pointed out, soldiers of this kind are a reliable partner for another NATO formations. He added that most of their achievements would never be made public. “By working in the shadows, you carry out tasks of the utmost importance. Thank you for all day of the country requiring service, I want you perseverance, wellness and safe return from every, even the most hard missions," Nawrocki wrote.

The function of the specialists was besides highlighted by Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence. "Poland is 1 of NATO leaders today, we co-create its strength, and in this work peculiar troops have a peculiar contribution," stressed the head of the MON in a letter read by Stanisław Wzątek, Deputy Minister of Defence. "The way to your formation is not easy, individual who is highly determined, consistent and physically efficient can serve. Therefore, there are fewer of you, and yet you are a large force," the Deputy Prime Minister added.

Stanisław Wąątek besides thanked the specialists in his own name for their courage and for their ability to carry out tasks despite various difficulties. “This courage is contagious due to the fact that you can and are a model for another soldiers and citizens of the Republic,” said the Deputy Minister. “When you go back to your homes, shake your loved ones, due to the fact that they are the ones you are,” added the deputy chief of the MON.

On the another hand, General Wiesław Kukuła, Head of the General Staff of the Polish Army, admitted that his presence at the celebration is not so much due to a sense of duty, but to a sense of bond and heart he feels for a unique peculiar army community. – We will not defend the Republic with forces only peculiar troops, but we will not defend it without peculiar troops – the Gen. Cuckoo.

During the ceremony medals, awards and distinctions were presented, among others, by the President, the head of the MON, the commander-in-chief of the general types of armed forces and the commander of peculiar troops, awarded for peculiar achievements in the service. The commemorative cups were besides honored with the best peculiar army athletes, including a sub-officer who broke the planet evidence in 2025, marking 4 times the Ironman competition.

The exception in NATO

The roots of the Polish peculiar Forces date back to planet War II and legendary Quiet – soldiers of the National Army trained in the UK for diversion, intelligence and sabotage activities in occupied Poland. It was their traditions that were taken over by modern peculiar units, primarily Military Unit GROM.

After 1989, the construction of modern peculiar forces based on the best Western formations began. The breakthrough was the creation of GROM in 1990 on the initiative of Brig. Gen. Sławomir Petelicki. The unit was initially subject to the MMA, and its soldiers trained, among others, according to American and British peculiar formations standards. The full combat readiness of GROM reached in 1992 and became more widely known after the operation in Haiti in 1994.

In the following years, further specialised units were developed: Commando Military Unit, Military Unit Formosa liable for maritime activities; and Agat Military Unit intended to support peculiar operations. The Polish component of specialists participated in missions in the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan, gaining very advanced assessments of NATO allies.

The position of a separate kind of armed forces peculiar troops gained on May 24, 2007. This was the consequence of a multi-annual process of integration of previously dispersed individuals under 1 command. At that time, Poland became 1 of the fewer NATO states with a stand-alone kind of armed forces dedicated exclusively to peculiar operations.

Today, alongside these components, peculiar troops besides consist of the Military Unit Nile liable for supporting command and securing peculiar operations and peculiar Forces Training Centre. The Air peculiar Operations Unit is besides cooperating with DKWS. The exact number of commandos remains undisclosed, information is made public, according to which the formation has respective 1000 people.
