Activists on the Spanish island of Majorca have devastated cars and companies belonging to German expatriates, reports Mallorca Zeitung.These incidents happen in the face of increasing anger over mass tourism across Spain and a worsening housing crisis in a country where rents and prices are rising rapidly.
On Saturday, nearly 30 shops and many cars were disfigured in the Spanish town of Santanyi in Majorca with abroad registration plates with stickers and passwords specified as ‘Germany out’ and "Foreign buyers go to hell."Police confirmed the incidents of the German Press Agency and reported that they had initiated an investigation to find the perpetrators.Santanyi, a hotel of about 12,800 inhabitants, located on the southeastern coast of Majorca, is simply a popular destination for German expatriates, many of whom have homes there or run businesses.
Vandalism takes place in the face of increasing anti-tourist sentiments in Majorca, where locals say mass tourism displaces residents and destroys the island's identity.
In June thousands of people marched in Palma, the capital of Majorca, holding banners with subtitles “foreigners, go home” and "Majorka is not your milk cow."
Media reports study that activists regularly pour water guns on tourists as part of symbolic protests.
Protesters blame mass short-term rental specified as Airbnb, and uncontrolled property speculation for the ongoing housing crisis in the country.

In an open list, the 2 largest property associations in Majorca warned that suitable housing became a luxury not only for residents but besides for seasonal workers and tourists.In May, the Mayor of Palma Jaime Martinez announced a plan worth EUR 300 billion ($353 billion) for the modernization of beaches, the ban on the construction of fresh tourist hotels and the ordering the renovation or conversion of existing hotels into residential apartments.Reports besides indicate that local authorities plan to remove 20% of sun loungers from Majorca beaches to make more space for residents
