Sova: Georgian sculptor Zurab Cereteli died

On 22 April in Russia, at the age of 92, a Georgian sculptor, architect, artist and president of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts — Zurab Cereteli died.

The artist, the creator of monumental works, will be buried on 27 April in Pantheon Didube, Tbilisi, where his wife, Inessa Andronikaszvili, besides rests. In connection with his death, Russian president Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences.

Cereteli was born in Tbilisi on 4 January 1934 and became celebrated for his monumental designs — he is the author of over 5,000 works of painting, graphics, sculptures, monumental-decoration arts (frescoes, mosaics, panels) and another works.

Ceretele's works are besides abroad. He was, among others, the author of the composition "Good overcomes evil" (remembering the signing in 1987 of the Treaty on the Elimination of average and Short scope Rockets) at the United Nations office in fresh York City, and besides created a memorial to the teardrop of Regret in memory of the victims of the 9/11 bombings.

One of Ceretel's best-known works in fresh years is the Freedom Monument, the statue of St. George the Winner, set on 23 November 2006 at the Freedom Square in Tbilisi.

In Russia, Cereteli is known as the author of the monument Peter I on the Moscow River. any claimed that he originally designed it as a monument to Christopher Columbus for the US, but the sculptor himself denied these rumors. He besides participated in the arrangement of the Krasnoprisieński Coast, triumph Park and Europe Square in Moscow.
