DALLAS- Southwest Airlines (WN) officially opened its expanded cargo facility at Denver International Airport (DEN) on June 5, 2025, representing a significant infrastructure investment in the airline’s busiest market.

The 30,000 square foot warehouse doubles the company’s cargo handling capacity at the airport, which processes nearly 300 daily flights during peak seasons.

Enhanced Cargo Facility

The new facility incorporates 6 loading docks that enable simultaneous customer service, addressing previous operational bottlenecks.

Southwest (WN) expanded storage areas throughout the warehouse and doubled the cooler space for refrigerated products, responding to growing demand for temperature-sensitive cargo transportation.

Brian Kilburn, Vice President of Cargo, Provisioning, and Ground Support Equipment, emphasised the facility’s role in connecting Denver-area businesses to global markets.

The airline positions cargo operations as integral to supporting regional economic growth beyond passenger transportation.

Strategic Partnership

Denver International Airport CEO Phil Washington highlighted Southwest’s position as one of DEN’s largest carriers, serving over 90 North American destinations from the Mile High City.

The cargo facility expansion reinforces the airline’s commitment to the Denver market, complementing its extensive passenger operations.

Metro Denver EDC President Raymond H. Gonzales praised the facility’s potential economic benefits for Colorado’s business community. The enhanced cargo capacity strengthens regional supply chains and supports small business operations, contributing to overall economic competitiveness.

Southwest (WN) launched a promotional campaign offering shippers double Rapid Rewards points for cargo shipped to or from Denver (DEN) through December 31, 2025.

The incentive program applies to the airline’s existing Rapid Rewards Cargo program, encouraging businesses to utilise the expanded facility.

Infrastructure Development

The cargo facility represents one component of Southwest’s comprehensive Denver-area infrastructure expansion. Earlier in June 2025, the airline opened an off-airport training centre in the Colorado Aerotropolis.

Southwest (WN) previously established a maintenance hangar in 2022 to support technical operations across the western United States.

The company plans to complete a 100,000 square foot General Use Building within weeks, housing provisioning and ground support equipment teams. These investments demonstrate Southwest’s long-term commitment to Denver as a strategic hub.

Construction Partnership

McCarthy Building Companies project director Ethan Walton credited collaborative efforts between Southwest Airlines (WN), design partners Burns and McDonnell, and various trades for successful project completion. The construction team delivered infrastructure supporting one of the country’s fastest-growing aviation hubs.

The facility positions Southwest (WN) to capitalise on Denver’s strategic location and growing cargo demand, reinforcing the airline’s competitive position in the freight transportation market.
