From 1 September 2026, in kindergartens and primary schools, the usage of mobile phones and akin devices will be prohibited, and schools are to adapt their statutes by 31 December. The Act of 3 July, announced on 3 August in the diary of Laws, strengthens the simple principle: the lesson is from learning, not from scrolling.

Prohibition from 1 September

The Amendment of the Educational Law introduces nationwide rules on the usage of mobile phones and akin devices in educational facilities. Law of 3 July 2026. was announced in the authoritative diary of Laws on 3 August under heading 1036 and is to enter into force on 1 September 2026.

The point is clear: in kindergartens and primary schools, the telephone is to halt ruling the day of the child. The prohibition includes the usage of cells and devices for communication, image recording or sound recording during stay at the facility and activities organised outside its territory. Over-primary schools have a greater statutory role: they are to specify terms of usage or to introduce a ban.

It's not an administrative trifle. For years, the school has pretended that the smartphone in the student's pocket is simply a neutral gadget. It's not. It's a constantly open window for distraction, peer pressure, recording without permission, and algorithms designed to keep your attention as long as possible.

Exceptions, but no gate for chaos

Radio Szczecin, citing Andrzej Kobylc's West Pomeranian assistant education officer, pointed out 3 basic exceptions: the usage of a telephone for teaching purposes, for wellness reasons, for example erstwhile measuring sugar, and in situations of danger of life, wellness or property. It's a reasonable design. The state does not take the tool where it is needed. He cuts it off where it destroys focus.

Ministry of National Education reportedthat schools have time to adapt their statutes to 31 December 2026. In practice, this means that it is essential to describe the rules for the retention of devices, the usage of exceptions and the consequences of infringements. The MEN besides pointed to educational activities, statutory penalties and the anticipation of reducing the assessment of behaviour.

This isn't about formalism for formalism. If the ban is to work, it must be simple and enforceable. I want the parent to know what's going on with the baby's phone. I want the teacher to have a cleaning tool. The student is to realize that the school is simply a place of education and education, not an extension of social media.

Family and school against algorithm

The National diary has already written what the earlier version of the revision of the text foresees "Call ban in schools from September 2026". Now the trial is closed: after the signature of president Karol Nawrocki, the bill was announced and begins counting until the school year 2026/2027.

It's a good decision due to the fact that it restores simple hierarchy. The kid is not a client of the digital platform all minute of the day. The school is not a retention area where the teacher competes with notifications, short films and communicators. If you are serious about your family, you must sometimes stand by your parents against the large mechanisms of dependence.

Of course, the ban itself does not rise children. He will not replace conversation at home, the example of parents, or a wise teacher. But it gives a frame. And in matters of education, the framework matters, due to the fact that without it each institution fights separately, each teacher negotiates separately, and each parent hears that "all have."

The stakes are higher than the telephone in the backpack

Polish school needs silence, discipline and respect for the teacher's work. He besides needs courage to name a problem by name. A smartphone in the hand of a ten-year-old is not a symbol of modernity if it distracts him from learning, colleagues, sports and average conversation.

It is worth reminding that in the Polish debate the subject of digital restrictions is not new. DN has already described social sentiments around limiting platforms in the text that Poles want restrictions on the usage of social media by minors. School is the first place in which this concern should translate into order.

If fresh regulations are taken seriously, students will get a fewer hours a day without digital noise. For children, it could be more than a rule. It's a part of normal.
