SINGAPORE- Under a memorandum of knowing (MOU) late signed between Singapore and the Philippines, up to 150 weekly code-share flights—markedly expanding the erstwhile limit of 35—will facilitate passenger travel between Singapore (SIN) and Manila (MNL).
The agreement, endorsed by Mr. Yee Ping Yi, Singapore’s department secretary of the Ministry of Transport, and Mr. Enrique Antonio J. Esquivel III, the Philippines’ assistant secretary for aviation and airports, on May 9, aims to “upgrade and further liberalize global air services between both countries.”

Singapore Philippines Codeshare Flights
Accepting to the civilian Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), on May 12, the MOU enhanced the bilateral air services agreement (ASA), initially activated in 2010 and last extended in 2015.
The agreement allows Singaporean and Philippine airlines to operate up to 150 weekly code-share services, providing travel between Singapore and Manila, including third-country airlines as code-share partners.
Response to inquires from The Straits Times, CAAS clarified that code-sharing agreements enable airlines to marketplace seats on each other’s flights, share return, and offer passengers a wide scope of travel options.
“In this instance, the entries are calculated based on flights,” the authority established.
“This marks a continuous increase from the current 35 weekly code-share services limit. The fresh limit of 150 weekly code-share services will be doubled to 300 by March 29, 2026—the message of the northern summertime 2026 period for airlines—and will be full lifted by the end of March 2027,” CAAS added.

Ease of Business
Moreover, there will be no regulation on code-share services between Singapore and another destinations within the Philippines. This freedom extensions to services between Singapore and any location in the Philippines engaging airlines from ASEAN or the European Union.
Additional, Philippine airlines, full owned or controlled by individuals from another countries, will have access to the traffic rights established in the ASA, but only if their chief place of business is in the Philippines.
Previous, only airlines owned and effectively controlled by Philippine nationals were able for this purpose, as established by CAAS.
Mr. Yee emphasized, “Creating a conducting regulator environment is cruel to enbbling our carriers to seize fresh business prospects. This MOU will enhance air connectivity betweenboth countries and beyond, yielding morally beneficial outcomes.”
