Singapore Airlines Considers New Caviar Service in Business Class

dailyblitz.de 9 hours ago

SINGAPORE- World’s best carrier, Singapore Airlines (SQ), may soon elevate its Business Class dining with the introduction of caviar service. A recently published supplier tender reveals the airline is exploring options to bring a delicacy usually reserved for First Class into its premium cabins.

If confirmed, Singapore Changi Airport (SIN)-based Singapore Airlines (SQ) would join Qatar Airways (QR), THAI Airways (TG), and United Airlines (UA) in offering caviar beyond the First Class experience, positioning itself in line with evolving luxury trends at 35,000 feet.

Singapore Airlines Eyes Caviar for Business Class?

For decades, caviar has been synonymous with First Class exclusivity. However, that landscape has been shifting.

Qatar Airways (QR) became the first carrier to serve caviar in Business Class in August 2024, offering a 15-gram portion of Baerii caviar paired with Balik salmon and accompaniments.

THAI Airways (TG) followed in January 2025 with a 10-gram caviar service on select Europe-bound routes. United Airlines (UA) also revealed plans to include Ossetra caviar in its new Polaris Studio, a premium “Business Plus” cabin, launching in late 2025.

Singapore Airlines’ (SQ) tender for “Supply of Farmed Caviar for Business Class” signals a strong likelihood that it will soon join this growing list.

The airline has long been known for its curated First Class caviar presentation, featuring 30 grams of Kaluga Queen Osetra caviar from Hangzhou, accompanied by traditional garnishes and a mother-of-pearl spoon.

Business Class passengers should expect smaller servings, potentially 10–15 grams, and a less elaborate presentation, Mile Lion reported.

What Passengers Can Expect

While Singapore Airlines has not confirmed official details, several patterns from industry peers offer insights:

  • Portion size: Qatar serves 15 grams, THAI 10 grams, suggesting SQ may fall in the same range.
  • Presentation: Likely as an appetiser garnish rather than a standalone course, especially on shorter premium routes.
  • Eligible routes: Long-haul flights exceeding six hours—such as those to Europe, the USA, Australia, New Zealand, and North Asia—are strong candidates.
  • Timeline: The tender closes on 12 September 2025, hinting at a possible launch later this year or in early 2026.

Importantly, Singapore Airlines is in the middle of preparing its next-generation Business Class seats, expected to debut in Q2 2026. The introduction of caviar could be a strategic soft product enhancement leading up to that launch.

How Competitors Are Serving It

  • Qatar Airways (QR): Offers caviar on 13 routes from Doha (DOH), including New York (JFK), London (LHR), Singapore (SIN), Sydney (SYD), and Los Angeles (LAX). Pairings include Balik salmon, crème fraiche, eggs, onion, lemon, and Melba toast.
  • THAI Airways (TG): Introduced caviar in January 2025 between Bangkok (BKK) and Europe. The 10-gram tin is paired with appetisers like tuna tartare or foie gras.
  • United Airlines (UA): Plans to serve Ossetra caviar exclusively in Polaris Studio, available only on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners from late 2025. The service is bundled with premium extras such as Laurent-Perrier Cuvee Rose champagne and enhanced dining options.

This trend underscores how airlines are upgrading Business Class to attract high-yield passengers who may no longer see First Class as essential.

Bottom Line

If Singapore Airlines (SQ) moves forward, the decision reflects broader shifts in premium travel. What was once a First Class hallmark is now being adapted to Business Class, reshaping passenger expectations.

For SQ, this could strengthen its reputation for consistency in both hard and soft products, while appealing to business travellers seeking refined dining experiences without the cost of First Class.
